Brad Hardie joins Australian Football Hall of Fame

Wednesday, June 5, 2019 - 8:34 AM - by Chris Pike

ALREADY acknowledged with inductions into the West Australian Football and South Fremantle Football Club Halls of Fame, Bulldogs champion Brad Hardie cemented his legacy forever by entering the Australian Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday night.

It is the ultimate recognition for one of South Fremantle's favourite sons who burst onto the scene in the Mighty Red V as a teenager and was a premiership player in 1980 as just a 17-year-old where he kicked three goals on the Grand Final win over Swan Districts.

Hardie would go on to win South Fremantle's fairest and best in 1982 and was captain by 1984 while winning the Simpson Medal as WA's best player in the 1984 State of Origin clash with Victoria in 1984.

South Fremantle Women's Team Review

Tuesday, June 4, 2019 - 5:02 PM

SATURDAY saw more great games by both female teams on what felt more like Spring rather than a Winter's day.

Unfortunately the South Fremantle Reserves were beaten by a senior East Fremantle team with better ball control on the day.

Coach Jason Elliott was happy with the way the girls played to the game plan and could see what the team had been working on in training.  Read More [+]

Brave Bulldogs continue derby domination

Tuesday, June 4, 2019 - 2:31 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle had to overcome a 22-point deficit and the loss of three key players to dominate the second half of the WA Day Foundation Derby on Monday to beat East Fremantle by 32 points.

The 2019 WA Day Foundation Derby took place at East Fremantle's New Choice Homes Park and the challenge was firmly put in front of South Fremantle when the Sharks started the game well and the injuries mounted for the Bulldogs.

But South Fremantle would kick 10 goals to three in the second half and the only five goals of the final term to run out 16.7 (103) to 10.11 (71) victors. Read More [+]

Tuesday, June 4, 2019 - 9:45 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle is back in action following the gutsy WA Day Foundation Derby win heading to Mandurah on Saturday following the bye to take on Peel Thunder in Round 10 of the 2019 WAFL season.

South Fremantle continued its recent domination of East Fremantle on WA Day with a ninth successive derby victory and 11th straight win at East Fremantle to win by 32 points despite losing Haiden Schloithe, Shaun Bewick and Jake Florenca to injury throughout the afternoon.

In the end, the win was a sixth straight this season for South Fremantle to see them head into last week's bye with a 7-1 record on the season.

Suban the hero as Bulldogs snatch win from Thunder

Tuesday, June 4, 2019 - 12:00 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle ensured it will go into this Saturday's clash with Subiaco with plenty of momentum after Nick Suban kicked a stunning match-winner to beat a Peel Thunder side he won two premierships with on Saturday.

South Fremantle went to Mandurah's David Grays Arena on Saturday as the form team in the WAFL having won six straight matches heading into a bye in Round 10, while Peel was attempting to avoid a fourth successive defeat.

The Bulldogs were on top most of the afternoon despite the absence of Haiden Schloithe, Shaun Bewick and Brandon Donaldson in what was Brock Higgins' 100th WAFL appearance for the Mighty Red V.

Match-winner all part of career-best Zac Strom form

Sunday, June 2, 2019 - 10:21 PM - by Chris Pike

QUIETLY Zac Strom has turned himself into one of South Fremantle's most important and versatile players, and now as he nears becoming a 100-game WAFL player he can add match-winner to his resume after Saturday's win against East Perth.

Because of his unobtrusive and soften spoken nature, Strom had quietly gone about building a 92-game WAFL career now with South Fremantle that began with a debut in Round 16, 2013.

Along the way ever since, Strom has seen his time split between being a lockdown key defender, a centre half-back or a hard-leading centre half-forward along with being a more than handy backup ruckman with his size and mobility.

Bulldog Pickett to make most of long-awaited AFL chance

Sunday, June 2, 2019 - 9:00 PM - by Chris Pike

GIVEN he is 98 games into his WAFL career at South Fremantle the chance might have come later than it could have and an AFL debut might still be delayed until 2020, but Marlion Pickett is now getting the chance he deserves thanks to Richmond.

The Pickett story is a remarkable one and it's a tremendous example of how someone can overcome a troubled youth with the right support around him, and turn both his personal and professional life around.

It's no secret the bad decisions a younger Pickett made and by being caught up with the wrong people he paid the consequences for that, but it takes tremendous commitment and courage to turn your life around, and to let people help you to accomplish that.

Round 11 Preview v Subiaco

Saturday, June 1, 2019 - 7:35 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle is the form team of the competition despite the hurdles the Bulldogs continue to overcome and having already beaten Subiaco once in 2019, another win and they will shoot clear on top of the WAFL ladder on Saturday.

Despite the loss of experienced and quality players coming into the season, South Fremantle has taken all before them so far in 2019 having won eight of its nine matches, including handing Subiaco its only defeat in two years back in Round 6 at Leederville Oval.

The Bulldogs' lone loss along the way was a game that could have easily gone the way against Perth back in Round 2. But since then, South Fremantle has put together a seven-game winning streak coming into Saturday's clash with Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
