Johnson, Higgins instrumental in WAFL win over SANFL

Monday, May 14, 2018 - 4:19 PM - by Chris Pike
BLAINE Johnson and Brock Higgins were both playing their first games for Western Australia and were strong contributors in the eventual 26-point victory against South Australia at Adelaide Oval.

Due to a combination of withdrawing through not being 100 per cent fit and missing out on final selection, Johnson and Higgins were the last two South Fremantle left to make the final WAFL team of 23 ahead of Nick Suban, Ashton Hams, Haiden Schloithe, Ben Saunders, Marlion Pickett and Ryan Cook.

It was a drought-breaking win for the WAFL in Adelaide as well Johnson and Higgins played significant roles in that final result. Read More [+]

Bulldogs keep winning with strong win over Swans

Tuesday, May 8, 2018 - 1:27 PM - by Chris Pike
DESPITE missing some key players and with Swan Districts providing a good test, South Fremantle continued its impressive form to score a fourth straight win by 14 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

South Fremantle and Swan Districts both played finals in 2017 and aside from a loss to Subiaco apiece in the opening five rounds, had largely been quite impressive to start 2018 heading into Saturday's clash at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The Bulldogs also had to deal with the absence of key players Haiden Schloithe, Ashton Hams, Blayne Wilson and Steven Edwards with Tom Vandeleur, Jarrod Parry and Brendan Verrier already sidelined, but their depth came through against the black-and-whites. Read More [+]

Coach Post Match – Todd Curley Round 6

Tuesday, May 8, 2018 - 5:25 AM - by Chris Pike

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the Bulldogs' 13-point Round 6 WAFL victory against Swan Districts to give them four straight wins heading into the State Game break.

QUESTION: Swan Districts kept challenging you all day, but you kept responding too so I think you'll be really happy with that result?
ANSWER:
We were rapt. Obviously towards the end we conceded a bit more score than we would have liked but we had some challenges with personnel and then Saundo got a bit sore so we took him out. We had a few underdone as well and had seven blokes with 15 games or less. That shows good signs for the future there and Glenn Byron in his first game was good. We have some really young kids out there and I thought our leaders stood up as well so it was good.

Tuesday, May 1, 2018 - 12:23 PM - by Chris Pike
SOUTH Fremantle quality shone through late in the game against Claremont in Albany on Saturday with the Bulldogs winning a third straight match this season beating the Tigers by 27 points.

It was the fifth time that a WAFL game has been held in Albany since 1989 but the first time at Centennial Stadium following the first four matches in the city were played at Collingwood Park.

An impressive crowd of 2664 people turned out to watch the most competitive match of the weekend in the WAFL too with little separating the Tigers and Bulldogs over the first three quarters. Read More [+]

Suban settling into WAFL life with the Bulldogs

Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 1:49 PM - by Chris Pike

NICK Suban's time in the AFL might have come to an end earlier than he hoped at the end of 2017, but he was only too happy to join South Fremantle to begin the next phase of life and that already has seen named in the Western Australian State squad for next month's clash with South Australia.

For his entire adult life, Suban has known nothing aside from being an AFL football being drafted to the Fremantle Dockers in 2008 from North Ballarat.

In that time, he became a life member at Fremantle by playing 156 games including being part of the 2013 Grand Final team and for most of his time at the Dockers he had been a mainstay of the team.

Bulldogs continue domination of Sharks in ANZAC Derby

Tuesday, April 24, 2018 - 1:40 PM - by Chris Pike
SOUTH Fremantle put together its best performance of the 2018 WAFL season to continue its recent domination of East Fremantle to win Sunday's ANZAC Derby by 94 points at East Fremantle Oval.

South Fremantle came into the derby having lost to Subiaco by 58 points in its opening game after the Round 1 bye and then having to fight hard to overcome West Perth at HBF Arena, while East Fremantle had beaten Perth narrowly but lost to Peel Thunder and Claremont either side of that.

So the form lines were similar entering the 10th consecutive ANZAC Derby but it was South Fremantle who made the early statement at East Fremantle Oval and didn’t let up the rest of the afternoon. Read More [+]
