South Fremantle supports Jandakot Jets junior footballer

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

THE South Fremantle Football Club was recently informed of a serious knee and ankle injury that occurred to one of the junior players from within its zone; Ben Ashton from the Jandakot Jets Junior Football Club.

Ben, described as a footy fanatic by Jandakot Jets Junior Football Club president Craig Reynolds, suffered the injury in a training drill when one of his teammates performed a tackle on him.

“The incident was completely accidental, he went to change direction and was tackled at the same time and it was very unfortunate for all involved,” Reynolds said.

“To add further insult to his injury Ben was due to fly out with his family to Bali to celebrate his Dad’s 50th birthday which he will now miss out on.”

The damage to Ben’s left leg was extensive with breaks and dislocations in both the ankle and knee leaving the young footballer’s 2016 season in ruin.

To help raise the spirits of Ben, led by South Fremantle captain Ryan Cook and Bulldogs coach Todd Curley, the entire senior playing squad at South Fremantle signed a football, a hat, a 2016 team poster and left a heart-warming card for Ben.

“We were all saddened to hear of Ben’s injury and we can all relate to the disappointment of getting injuries after a long pre-season,” Cook said.

“We hope to see Ben up and about and around the club in the near future.”

Ben is a South Fremantle WAFL and West Coast AFL supporter whose favourite player is Hawthorn champion Sam Mitchell.

Though still in a high degree of pain, Ben was delighted to receive the support and gift pack from the club posing for the attached picture with his new football, hat and poster.

“We are not a club that puts our hand out for assistance very often and we are proud of what we give back to the football community as a club, we cannot thank the South Fremantle Football Club enough for their help on this occasion,” Reynolds said.

As the premier family club in the WAFL, South Fremantle was delighted to help one of its own and will be continuing to monitor Ben’s recovery across the remainder of 2016, wishing him a speedy recovery.
