BULLDOGS KICK MULTIPLE GOALS IN FIRST EVER AWAY GAME

THERE were some more encouraging signs for South Fremantle’s team in the WAFL Women’s competition on Saturday as they kicked multiple goals for the first time in their first ever game away from home.

South Fremantle’s goals came courtesy of Kiara Templeman and Lauren Vecchio against Subiaco at Leederville Oval as they joined Chloe Taylor from last week as the first three goal kickers for the Bulldogs in the WAFLW competition.

Vecchio, Templeman, Ella Higgins, Deni Broadhurst and Breanne Spencer were players to perform particularly strongly on the day for South Fremantle.

Subiaco and South Fremantle opened Round 4 of the WAFL Women’s season at Leederville Oval on Saturday morning and while the Bulldogs made history in a couple more ways, the Lions proved too strong winning by 81 points.

After two scoreless games to open their life in WAFLW, South Fremantle scored its first goal the week before against Claremont through Chloe Taylor.

Then on this Saturday morning, the Bulldogs kicked two goals for the first time in a game while it was also their first away match not held at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

That’s about where the good news ends, though, with Subiaco ending up recording the 14.11 (95) to 2.2 (14) victory to remain undefeated four games into the 2020 season.

Subiaco has now beaten Claremont, East Fremantle, Swan Districts and South Fremantle to open the season and to be a game and percentage on top of the ladder with only three rounds remaining before finals.

The Lions put their foot on the gas from the start of the game. They had eight shots on goal to none in the first quarter, managed to kick four goals from those and then lead by 28 points at quarter-time.

South Fremantle managed their first ever away goal then in the second quarter, but Subiaco kicked three more majors themselves to head into half-time leading by 39 points.

The Bulldogs were again scoreless in the third term with the Lions piling on five goals to see their lead grow to 72 points. Subiaco then kicked two goals and South Fremantle one in the fourth quarter with the Lions ending u winning 14.11 (95) to 2.2 (14).

Meanwhile, the Reserves and Rogers Cup matches were both played on Friday night at Leederville Oval.

It started off with a massive win for South Fremantle’s Youth Girls who beat Subiaco 8.10 (58) to 0.0 (0).

Poppy Stockwell was brilliant for the Bulldogs kicking six goals with Tara Garlett and Caitlin Arnoldi the other goal scorers.

South Fremantle’s Reserves couldn’t quite replicate that, though, with Subiaco winning 13.6 (84) to 2.7 (19). The goals for the Bulldogs came courtesy of Mel Porter and Taite Lantzke.

South Fremantle’s three female football teams will be back to Fremantle Community Bank Oval this Sunday to take on Swan Districts. The Youth Girls match starts at 3.00pm, the Reserves at 11.30am and then the WAFLW contest at 1.00pm.
