FREMANTLE OVAL SECURED FOR 40 YEARS

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

The signing of a 40-year licence agreement between the City of Fremantle and the South Fremantle Football Club represents a major step forward in the redevelopment of Fremantle Oval, ensuring this important heritage precinct’s future is anchored by community sport.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the South Fremantle Football Club has been at Fremantle Oval for 124 years and is now set to be there for at least another 40.

“The Club is an important partner in our vision for redeveloping Fremantle Oval which holds immense economic, cultural, sporting, tourism and historic value for both the Fremantle community and the wider public of WA,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

“Sport is at the heart of Fremantle Oval – both in the past, in the present and into the future. With the redevelopment, we envisage a second-tier facility with 14,000 seating and fit-for-purpose facilities both for WAFL and AFLW events, including much-needed facilities for female sport.

“We are delighted that the South Fremantle Football Club will continue to be part of Fremantle Oval’s exciting new future as well as its proud past.”

South Fremantle Football Club CEO Cameron Britt , said the club was thrilled to formalise its partnership with the City of Fremantle and secure its future tenure.

“Having trained and played at this iconic ground for 124 years, Fremantle is our home, and the Oval is of monumental importance for our players, members & supporters,” Mr Britt said.

“Securing our next 40 years is a tremendous outcome and the support by the City will allow our club to continue to grow and innovate as an inclusive, capable and contemporary sporting club.”

“We thank the City of Fremantle for their enduring support and for recognising South Fremantle Football Club’s contribution to the city and community,” Mr Britt concluded.
