OFFICIAL COVID-19 ANNOUNCEMENT

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

To all our valued members, partners and stakeholders,

We are currently in challenging and unprecedented times, as the entire world seeks to understand and mitigate the risks posed by the COVID-19 virus outbreak.

The football industry is working collaboratively to understand and tackle this highly complex issue, and we as a WAFL football club are being led by advice from the AFL, and the WAFC, who in turn are being led by the relevant Health authorities.

Like everyone else in the community, the South Fremantle Football Club is concerned about how things will progress over the next few weeks and months. We do know that the club needs to work diligently to minimise the impact of the COVID-19 virus on our players, coaches, staff, members, partners and supporters.

Rest assured, that the Board, management and staff understand your concerns and anxiety about COVID-19  and as a result, will advise you as soon as we can offer updates and/or decisions on the way forward for our Club and football in WA, noting that we are now operating in a rapidly changing environment.

Our ongoing and highest priority remains the health and well-being of all South Fremantle people, including that of our players, staff, members and supporters. This means that, for the near future at least, pre-arranged, and to-be-arranged club events and functions will be postponed for a period that is at this stage, undefined. Advice on events and functions will be provided to you in regular updates.

Advice received as of Monday March 16:

The AFL wishes to advise that following a meeting with AFL State CEOs a collective decision has been made to postpone the operation and/or the commencement of each premier State League and national and state talent program across the country.

The decision was collectively agreed upon based on the part-time nature of these competitions and the financial implications for the State League clubs and State Leagues.

This decision is effective until May 31.

The AFL will continue to explore all fixturing alternatives to ensure matches are played, however, acknowledges the situation is fluid and any decision made may change.

As you will be, we are all extremely disappointed that the 2020 season is to be affected so dramatically by this public health emergency. In this, our 120 th year, we must remain united and optimistic that we will get to mark the anniversary with some great footy and fun, as we celebrate all that is special about the South Fremantle Football Club.

Our members and partners are a loyal bunch, and we call upon this loyalty right now, in a period when our great Club and the game itself is under significant threat.

These are unique and evolving times, and our commitment to you is to communicate clearly, honestly and often.

Thank you once again for your support. We will be in contact with you as soon as more information comes to hand. Please look after yourself and those around you, especially our communities’ most vulnerable.

Go Bulldogs
