Author: South Fremantle Football Club
South Fremantle is back home on Saturday afternoon in WAFLW action with a chance to return to the top four with a victory against West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
Despite a derby loss last Friday night, South Fremantle remains in fifth position on the WAFLW ladder and now can further close in on a finals spot when taking on West Perth this Saturday afternoon.
The game will get underway at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 2:10pm on Saturday afternoon following on from the Rogers Cup match up also between the Bulldogs and Falcons that starts at 12:05pm.
The WAFLW contest on Saturday shapes as a potentially season-defining one for both teams with South Fremantle currently sitting in that fifth position with a 4-4 record while West Perth is only just ahead at 5-3.
The Falcons do have a significantly superior percentage so would be a good chance of still being ahead even with a Bulldogs win, but what it would do is put South Fremantle in a strong position to make a finals push in the back end of the 2025 season.
It’s the first time that the two teams have played one another this season as well and the first time they have played since more than a year ago on Saturday May 25 in Round 13 last year.
West Perth won a thriller that day to win by two points and prior that the Falcons also beat the Bulldogs in Round 4 last year by 46 points.
Then going back to 2023 when South Fremantle made the preliminary final, the Bulldogs won over the Falcons in Round 9 by 20 points and prior to that it was a win for South Fremantle by 28 points as well in Round 3 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
West Perth joined the WAFLW competition in 2022 and it was South Fremantle who played them in their first ever game winning by 74 points in Round 1 of that season.
The Bulldogs also won by 35 points later that year with South Fremantle now coming into this Saturday’s clash having beaten West Perth in five of their seven meetings in the WAFLW so far.
South Fremantle is coming off a nine-point loss to East Fremantle last Friday night in the derby at The Good Grocer Park to now have lost their past couple of matches this season to remain outside the top four.
From that team, South Fremantle have added Pia Durk, Zoe Keley, Annalie Polimeno, Sophie Rodger, Kyla Sanchez and Lauren Vecchio for Saturday’s match up.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Megan Bain and Renee Morgan.
West Perth did beat East Perth by 27 points also in a Friday night derby last week at Sullivan Logistics Stadium to maintain their hold on fourth position.
From that side, the Falcons have brought in Paige Dodunski, Amy Fortescue and Elissa Price for Saturday’s clash.
Going out for West Perth are Kenleigh Duve, Jamarah Walley and Rikisha Nannup.
Meanwhile, the Rogers Cup clash will also be at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday with South Fremantle currently in fourth place up against the league-leading West Perth.
The Bulldogs sit with a 4-3 record to be in fourth place while the Falcons are sitting on top on the back of winning the last two premierships with seven wins and a loss so far in 2025.
South Fremantle lost in the Rogers Cup derby last Friday night to East Fremantle by 39 points and from that team, Shakeeyah Dempster, Tylah Foreman, Alyssa Henderson and Imogen Stanners coming in.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Zoe Keley, Alexis Edgley, Shaya Yarran and Zoe Antonelli.
West Perth is coming off a 36-point win over East Perth last Friday and from that team, Teah Houlihan, Vienna Matera, Tayah Nicholson and Trista Smoker come into the team.
Bella Matera, Samantha Martland, Aimee Norbury and Isabel Seivwright are out of the side for the Falcons.
