RD 12 PREVIEW | v SUBIACO

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle has the chance to return to a top four position in the WAFLW when hosting Subiaco on Saturday, but it’s a significant challenge against the undefeated league-leaders.

The Bulldogs are back home on Saturday afternoon in Round 12 of the WAFLW season at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the clash with the Lions getting underway at 2:10pm.

South Fremantle come into the Round 12 clash sitting in fifth position on the WAFLW ladder with a 5-5 record but remain only percentage behind the fourth placed West Perth.

So a win on Saturday for the Bulldogs and depending on what happens with the Falcons against Peel Thunder on the same day, and they could very well end the weekend back inside a finals position.

The task is a significant one, though, for South Fremantle up against a Subiaco team currently sitting in top spot with nine wins from their 10 games of the season with the other one being a draw with the also undefeated Claremont.

South Fremantle are looking to bounce back from being the first ever team to lose to Perth in the WAFLW competition last Sunday in a game also played at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Subiaco are fresh off a hard earned 12-point win last Friday night against East Fremantle at Sullivan Logistics Stadium to maintain their hold on top position in the WAFLW.

The two teams last met back in Round 5 of this season which saw Subiaco beat South Fremantle by 37 points at Leederville.

With South Fremantle attempting to return to the winner’s list, they have added Pia Durk, Eva Flynn, Alira Fotu, Codi Thompson and Shaya Yarran to the squad for Saturday afternoon’s game from the team that lost to Perth last Sunday.

Subiaco are looking to remain undefeated this season with Marley Kelman, Clare McCarthy, Jess Pillera, Jorja Schell and Tiah Toth all coming into the squad to face South Fremantle.

Going out for the Lions are Beatrice Devlyn, Scarlet Gallo, Danika Pisconeri, Eva Popovsky and Lauren Bilaloski.

The Rogers Cup match up gets things underway at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday afternoon with South Fremantle taking on Subiaco from 12:05pm.

South Fremantle comes into the match up in fifth position with four wins, five losses and a draw so far this season while Subiaco is half a game back in seventh place with a 4-6 record.

That means that it’s a significant game for both teams in the context of the season as they try to at least stay in touch of a finals spot, or even try to break into the top four depending on other results.

The Bulldogs are coming off a thrilling three-point loss also at home last Sunday against Perth while Subiaco suffered a 42-point loss at the hands of East Fremantle last Friday night at Leederville.

The two teams last met in the Rogers Cup back in Round 5 across the Anzac Day weekend which saw a tight affair that had South Fremantle prevail in the end by seven points at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

Now coming into Saturday’s match up and Leyla Holland, Grace Johnson, Macey McDougall, Coco McGrath, Ebony Ricetti, Hallie Robinson and Khesan Starr come into the South Fremantle squad.

Going out for the Bulldogs are Imogen Stanners, Belle Cattalini and Asha Anderson-Wauhop.

Subiaco have added Maggie-Jean Adamson-Holmes, Nisreen Marouff and Kennedy Thorpe to their squad from the team that lost to East Fremantle last week.

Going out for the Lions are Emily White and Sienna Weston.
