RD 14 PREVIEW | v SWAN DISTRICTS

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle head to Steel Blue Oval on Saturday in hot WAFL form but fully aware that they can’t take anything for granted against a dangerous Swan Districts outfit.

The Bulldogs are 10 points clear in top spot on the WAFL ladder coming into the Round 14 match against Swans with the game getting underway on Saturday afternoon at 2:30pm.

The day at Steel Blue Oval begins with the colts contest at 9:05am followed by the reserves match up at 11:35am.

Coming into the WAFL league contest and it’s South Fremantle sitting clear in top spot with the 11-1 record on the season having now won seven matches in-a-row.

That included a strong showing at home last week to beat the second placed Claremont by 27 points which sees the Bulldogs two and-a-half games clear in top position but it’s not the time to take the foot off the gas.

Swan Districts do currently sit in eighth position on the WAFL ladder with a 4-8 record, but they are still a dangerous outfit especially at home at Steel Blue Oval while they are also fresh off an 11-point win over West Perth at Joondalup last Saturday.

The two teams did meet earlier this season at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in Round 3 and South Fremantle had to dig deep to come away with the hard earned 11-point victory.

Prior to that and the teams played out a draw in Round 17 last year and then before that, it was Swan Districts who had won three straight against South Fremantle.

And at Steel Blue Oval, South Fremantle have lost to Swans at the Bassendean venue on their past three visits including in Round 11 last year by 27 points.

The last time South Fremantle won at Steel Blue Oval was back in Round 15, 2021, and that’s when the Bulldogs were reigning premiers.

Star South Fremantle midfielder Isiah Winder is one of a whole host of Bulldogs players in hot form, but he is fully aware they can’t take Swan Districts lightly on Saturday.

“Just going off the last time we played them, they gave us a real hard crack and we probably should have lost that game to be honest but we snuck through and won it,” Winder told 91.3 SportFM.

“We’ll go into this game just like we go into any of the other games giving them the respect that they deserve. They are a better team than where they are placed on the ladder and they are a team on the rise, and we’ll given them the credit they deserve and come in ready for it I reckon.”

The day’s action will get underway with the colts match up with South Fremantle taking on Swan Districts at Steel Blue Oval.

Coming into the game and South Fremantle are sitting in second position in the colts with a 7-4 record while Swan Districts are fourth at 6-5.

That raises the stakes for the Saturday match up with South Fremantle having the chance to stay in touch of East Fremantle in top spot and to remain solid in second.

South Fremantle’s colts are trying to bounce back from last week’s six-point loss to Claremont and last time they took on Swans it was a 17.7 (109) to 3.8 (26) win for the Bulldogs back in Round 3 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Then in the reserves match up between South Fremantle and Swan Districts, the Bulldogs come into the clash in top spot while Swans are in third.

South Fremantle lost to Claremont by 50 points last Saturday but remain in first place with an 8-3 record as they take on a Swan Districts team only percentage behind them also in third place.

When they last met in the reserves back in Round 3 it was a tight contest as well with Swan Districts prevailing over South Fremantle by nine points.
