RD 18 PREVIEW | v WEST PERTH
Author: South Fremantle Football Club
The only hope South Fremantle have of still playing WAFLW finals in 2025 is with a big win on Friday night against West Perth and that’s exactly what they will be heading up to Joondalup shooting for.
The last round of the 2025 WAFLW season will get underway on Friday night with South Fremantle and West Perth doing battle at HIF Health Insurance Oval with the game getting underway at 7:35pm.
Neither team is guaranteed of anything with a win but both the Bulldogs and Falcons are in the same boat where their only hope of staying in finals contention is by winning on Friday night.
Coming into the last round of the WAFLW season and South Fremantle is sitting in sixth position with an 8-7 record while West Perth is only just ahead on percentage with an identical 8-7 record.
That has both teams sitting a game and percentage behind the fourth placed East Fremantle, but should the Sharks lose their game on Sunday against the third placed Swan Districts, then things get interesting.
Should East Fremantle lose on Sunday, then whoever wins out of South Fremantle and West Perth will be a chance to replace them in the top four and it will just end up coming down to percentage.
South Fremantle are looking for a strong finish to their season on Friday night and from the team that lost to Peel last Saturday, Jasmine Bazeley, Madison Hadley and Charlie Vandenberg come into the side.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Kate Newson, Kelli Elliss and Pippa Sideris.
West Perth is also in a must-win situation and from their team that lost to Subiaco last week by just two points, Leuca Krmpotic and Rikisha Nannup are into the team for the Falcons.
Going out for West Perth are Stacey Francis-Bayman and Chloe Metcalf.
South Fremantle’s Rogers Cup team will open the round on Friday evening at Joondalup and find themselves in a must-win situation against West Perth if they want to remain a chance to play finals.
The Bulldogs come into the last round of the 2025 season in the Rogers Cup sitting in fifth position on the ladder with seven wins, seven losses and a draw but they do still remain a chance to play finals.
The first step to make that happen will be for South Fremantle to beat West Perth on Friday evening, but that’s quite the challenge considering the Falcons are locked into top spot once again on the back of winning the last two Rogers Cup premierships.
The last time the two teams played was back in Round 10 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval where West Perth beat South Fremantle by 45 points, but the Bulldogs will be confident of a much stronger showing with their season on the line come Friday evening.
South Fremantle did snatch a thrilling last gasp win against Peel Thunder last Saturday in Mandurah to remain a chance to play finals still but that only remains a possibility with a win against West Perth.
Even if the Bulldogs are able to beat the Falcons, they will then also need Claremont to lose to Subiaco on Sunday in order to replace the Tigers in the top four and to set up a first semi-final match up with either East Fremantle or Swan Districts.
