RD 2 WAFLW PREVIEW | v SWAN DISTRICTS
South Fremantle made a dominant start to the WAFLW season in the derby and now will look to back that up on Good Friday on the road to Swan Districts.
The Bulldogs could not have asked for a better start to their WAFLW season than by holding East Fremantle goalless last Saturday in the derby victory by 49 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.
The chance to now continue that momentum comes on Good Friday this week when South Fremantle travels to Bassendean’s Steel Blue Oval to play Swan Districts.
The WAFLW game will get underway at 12:25pm on Friday afternoon while before that, the two teams will meet in the Rogers Cup on Thursday night also at Steel Blue Oval starting at 7pm.
While South Fremantle made the perfect start to their season last Saturday, so did Swan Districts with a win against Claremont setting the stage now for a terrific Good Friday contest with both teams attempting to make a 2-0 start to 2026.
The Bulldogs are looking to rise up the ladder this season and those signs of improvement were all on show last Saturday in the 49-point win against East Fremantle.
There was plenty to like in that performance as well including the efforts of off-season recruits Ash Gomes, Mikayla Hyde and Tash Entwistle while Pippa Sideris and Annalie Polimeno kicked two goals each.
As good as that first up performance was, it’s now another significant test for the Bulldogs on Good Friday against a Swan Districts team who played in the grand final last year and only ended up losing to Claremont by a solitary point.
Swans then started this season off by earning a measure of revenge on Claremont with the 41-point victory against the Tigers as they now look to back that up at home on Good Friday against the Bulldogs.
South Fremantle have made two changes to the team that beat East Fremantle last week for the match up with Swan Districts on Good Friday.
Liusaidh Gilchrist will come in to make her first appearance of 2026 along with Kate Newson with Jasmine Bazeley and Brianna Cleggett going out of the team.
Swan Districts will have the same team that beat Claremont last week with Summer Ajduk, Kayla Gordon, Emily McGuire and Emma Nanut the emergencies.
It was a first up loss last Saturday in the Rogers Cup for South Fremantle against East Fremantle as they now try to get their first win on the board for 2026 on Thursday night against Swans at Steel Blue Oval.
The Bulldogs lost to the Sharks by 13 points at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday with Maddi Catley kicking two goals and Hannah Floyd, Niamh Sherry, Ashley Speijers, Holly Barnes and Bailee Pike among the standout performers.
Swan Districts started their Rogers Cup season beating Claremont by 20 points last Saturday after playing in last year’s preliminary final as they now attempt to make it two wins to start the 2026 season against South Fremantle on Thursday night.
From that South Fremantle team last week, Ruby Chipper, Eva Flynn, Alyssa Henderson, Madeline Jarrett, Emely Miller and Izabella Stuart come into the Rogers Cup line-up.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Hannah Floyd, Isla Ferraro, Khesan Starr, Bailee Pike, Samara Donohue and Olivia Henderson.
Katica Borsic, Sienna Gerardi, Adi Griffith, Isla McAulay, Gemma Smith, Lily Williamson and Madeleine Wright come into the side for Swan Districts.
From the outfit that beat Claremont last week, Layla Hagerstrom, Shanae Morisey, Khalia Fawcett, Karri Parnham, Grace Vale, Keira Fawcett and Charlotte Cousin go out for the Swans.
