RD 5 WAFLW PREVIEW | v SUBIACO

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle faces another big test on Saturday in Round 5 of the 2025 WAFLW season taking on another undefeated side, Subiaco, at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

The Bulldogs started the WAFLW season in impressive fashion under new coach Pia Faletti with wins against East Fremantle, Perth and Peel Thunder before setting up a battle of undefeated teams with Claremont on Good Friday.

South Fremantle ended up suffering a first loss of the season with the 22-point defeat at the hands of the reigning premiers at Revo Fitness Stadium and now the challenges keep on coming this Saturday.

Having just lost to one undefeated side, the other team yet to taste a defeat in 2025 is Subiaco and that is who South Fremantle is taking on this Saturday afternoon at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

The WAFLW match gets underway at 2:15pm to be followed up by the Rogers Cup contest that begins at 4:20pm.

The game does present a real chance for South Fremantle to make a statement for the 2025 season with the Bulldogs coming into the game in third position with a 3-1 record while the Lions are sitting on top at 4-0.

That raises the stakes for the match up with a win for South Fremantle seeing them join Subiaco on a 4-1 record by the end of Round 5 while a loss would see them slip to 3-2 and start to lose touch with those top two teams.

Scoring for the Bulldogs against the Lions is going to be the challenge with Subiaco so far having only conceded an average of 18.8 points a game across the opening four rounds of the season.

Subiaco has only given up 10 goals in total in wins against West Perth, East Perth, Swan Districts and East Fremantle but the Bulldogs do have some genuine goalkicking options led by Zoe Huggett and Poppy Stockwell.

South Fremantle is also looking for a fourth successive win against Subiaco having won both meetings between the two teams in 2024 by a total of eight points in two tight affairs.

The Bulldogs also won the second clash back in 2023 on the way to a run to the preliminary final following a draw earlier in the season with the Lions.

South Fremantle now hasn’t lost to Subiaco since Round 11, 2022, and will be looking to keep that run going and hand the Lions a first loss of the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon.

Following on from the WAFLW match up will be the Rogers Cup game for Round 5 also at Sullivan Logistics Stadium between Subiaco and South Fremantle.

The Bulldogs come into the game in third position on the Rogers Cup ladder with a 2-2 record as they take on a Lions team in second spot having won three of their four matches to begin the 2025 season.

South Fremantle is looking to hit back from a five-point loss to Claremont in the Rogers Cup back on Good Friday while Subiaco is fresh off a six-point victory against East Fremantle back on the same day over Easter.
