RD 6 PREVIEW | v EAST PERTH

South Fremantle is looking to avoid three straight WAFLW losses this season and back-to-back defeats to East Perth when hosting the Royals at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

The WAFLW competition resumes this weekend following last week’s State game break and for the Bulldogs that means a return home to Fremantle Community Bank Oval to face the Royals.

The Rogers Cup contest opens up proceedings on Saturday at 12:05pm with the WAFLW clash to follow at 2:10pm.

South Fremantle currently sits in fourth position on the WAFLW ladder with a 3-2 record having scored wins against East Fremantle, Perth and Peel Thunder before losing to the competition’s two undefeated sides, Subiaco and Claremont.

East Perth, meanwhile, currently sits on a 1-3 record having beaten the league’s newcomers, Perth, but having suffered defeats to Swan Districts, Subiaco and East Fremantle.

South Fremantle won the first three meetings in the WAFLW against East Perth by an average of 68 points, but it was the Royals that won the most recent contest last year when they did score the four-point victory.

The WAFLW competition took a break last week for the State game where Western Australia took on South Australia at Adelaide Oval.

The WA team was leading by six points at half-time and one at three quarter-time before the SANFL team managed to kick two goals to one on their home ground to secure the eventual eight-point victory in the second ever women’s State clash between the best of the two competitions.

South Fremantle were represented by Tahleah Mulder with the 23-year-old ending up one of WA’s best in the narrow loss finishing with 18 possessions and six marks for the afternoon.

From the South Fremantle team that suffered a loss to Subiaco two weeks ago prior to the State game break, Melinda Bobby, Eva Flynn, Bailey Hunt, Mulder, Marie Polimeno, Shannyn Pomersbach, Charlotte Vandenberg and Shaya Yarran have all been added to the squad.

Going out for the Bulldogs team to face East Perth will be Liusaidh Gilchrist, Holly Ifould, Indi Strom and Caitlin Pears.

East Perth is hunting a second straight win against South Fremantle with Charli Bassett, Jade Boekeman, Jorja Elisseou, Brianna Hyde and Hannah Trusso all added to the squad.

Going out for the Royals is Zoe Roberts from the team that lost to East Fremantle back in the Anzac Round.

The day’s action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval gets underway with the Rogers Cup match up between South Fremantle and East Perth beginning at 12:05pm.

Following the general bye last week, South Fremantle comes into Round 6 currently sitting in third position on the Rogers Cup ladder having won three of the five games so far this season.

The Bulldogs are taking on a Royals team yet to win this season as well having lost all four of their Rogers Cup matches by an average of 46.5 points.

South Fremantle scored a seven-point win against Subiaco two weeks ago at Sullivan Logistics Stadium prior to the bye while East Perth last up suffered a 70-point defeat at the hands of East Fremantle also at the same Leederville venue.

Jasmine Bazeley, Belle Cattalini, Alyssa Henderson, Leyla Holland, Zoe Keley, Chelsea Martinez and Hallie Robinson have all been added to the squad for the South Fremantle Rogers Cup team this week.

Going out for the Bulldogs are Poppy James, Ayvah Rioli and Shaya Yarran.

Sabah Cornelius, Nia Dias-Kelly, Saffi Jennings, Hannah John, Shari Ketteridge, Stefany Stack, Scarlet Van Beek, Giaan Versace and Daniella Virgo have all been added to the East Perth squad from the one that lost to East Fremantle.

Going out for the Royals in the Rogers Cup are Charli Bassett, Chevelle Legenstein, Stella Bardon, Neve Lentjes and Asha Ladyman.
