RD 8 PREVIEW | v SWAN DISTRICTS

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle resumes their WAFLW season this Sunday hosting Swan Districts at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with both teams coming into the match up occupying top four positions.

The Bulldogs had the bye in Round 7 of the WAFLW season but prior to that had returned to the winner’s list beating East Perth by 15 points back in Round 6 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Now South Fremantle are back in action this Sunday taking on the third placed Swan Districts with the WAFLW contest beginning at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 12:10pm.

The Bulldogs currently sit in fourth position on the WAFLW ladder with a 4-2 record while Swans are just ahead of them in third place at 5-1 and currently on a four-match winning streak.

That sets the stage for a fascinating Round 8 match up with the two teams doing battle for the first time against one another for 2025.

The two teams have played one another nine times so far in the WAFLW competition with South Fremantle having lost their last meeting in Round 12 last year, but prior to that had beaten Swans three straight times.

The Bulldogs will now be looking to make it four wins in the past five meetings with Swan Districts to head into the WA Day derby next Friday night full of momentum.

South Fremantle assistant coach Natalie Szelid is pleased with the start the Bulldogs have made to the 2025 season but is looking forward to the challenge against an in-form Swans team on Sunday.

“Having a 4-2 record to start the season has us super, super proud of the girls but this week is definitely going to be a good game against Swan Districts,” Szelid told The Kennel on 91.3 SportFM.

“We were pretty happy to be able to have last week off to work hard in preparation for it and chip away at the things that we want to tweak and work on, but also celebrate our system and keep building on what’s working well for us.

“Hopefully we’ll get out there on Sunday, play our brand of football and come away on top.”

The Rogers Cup contest on Sunday gets things underway at Fremantle Community Bank Oval when South Fremantle plays Swan Districts starting at 10:05am.

South Fremantle’s Rogers Cup team also had the bye last week and prior to that scored a heart stopping one-point victory against East Perth to remain in third position on the ladder with a 4-2 record.

They take on a Swan Districts team on Sunday who are currently in second place also with a 4-2 record and just percentage ahead so the winner of Sunday’s match will occupy that second position by the end of Round 8.
