ROUND 13 WAFLW PREVIEW V CLAREMONT

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

IT will be a full day of women’s football action on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in Round 13 of the WAFLW season between South Fremantle and Claremont.

Round 13 signals that the final three rounds of the 2021 Optus WAFLW Premiership Season are underway and South Fremantle has the chance to put a serious dent in Claremont’s finals aspirations on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

South Fremantle comes into the Sunday clash on home soil still seeking that first ever win in the WAFLW competition, but if it came on Sunday against Claremont, it would put the Tigers in a precarious position.

Claremont remains in third position on the WAFLW ladder with a 6-6 record but they have been struggling for form in recent times including losing to East Fremantle last week with that result keeping the Sharks hopes of reaching the finals alive.

Now if Claremont can’t return to the winner’s list on Sunday against South Fremantle, it leaves the door open for East Fremantle to still replace them in the top four.

South Fremantle would also love nothing more than recording that elusive first ever WAFLW victory before the 2021 season concludes.

South Fremantle has added Gabrielle Canicosa, Tahlia Dawson-Gibbs, Shakira Pickett, Mim Strom and Kara Turley to their squad to take on Claremont on Sunday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Mikaila Kowald is the only out at this stage from the team that lost to Peel Thunder in Mandurah last Saturday night.

Claremont has made four changes from the side that went down to East Fremantle last Sunday with Adele Arnup, Kelsey Lang, Kate Orme and Julia Uhe into the line-up at the expense of Hayley Colvin, Emily Elkington, Ayesha Razvi and Charlotte Tompkin.

Meanwhile, both the South Fremantle’s WAFLW Reserves and Youth Girls teams will begin the Sunday action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in Round 13 against Claremont.

The Rogers Cup match up between South Fremantle and Claremont begins at 10.20am and it’s a crucial one for both teams.

With three rounds of the season remaining, South Fremantle currently sits in fourth position with a 7-6 record while Claremont is fifth with a 5-6 record.

The Bulldogs also have a massively superior percentage than the Tigers so a win for South Fremantle on Sunday will guarantee a finals berth, and keep them in touch as well for a top two finish.

However, a win for Claremont on Sunday and all of a sudden the race will be on over the final two rounds to see which of the two teams ends up taking part in the Rogers Cup finals for 2021.

The WAFLW Reserves match up on Sunday will then bounce down at 10.20am on Sunday between South Fremantle and Claremont.

The Bulldogs come into the final three rounds of the season in the Reserves in sixth position with a 4-6 record while the Tigers currently sit in fourth place with a 6-4 record.
