Round 2 WAFLW Preview v Peel Thunder

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

SOUTH Fremantle might not have quite made the debut in the WAFL Women’s competition they were hoping for, but it’s back to Fremantle Community Bank Oval this Sunday with the Bulldogs hosting Peel Thunder.

The Bulldogs were granted a full license to join the WAFLW competition in 2020 a year earlier than expected only around a month away from the season getting underway, and it’s fair to say the Round 1 result wasn’t what anyone was hoping for.

But the fact that South Fremantle now has a team in the competition and can begin to grow and develop is a positive, and there is a real chance to put in a better showing on the field this Sunday against a Peel Thunder team that finished with last year’s wooden spoon.

It was a tough initiation to the WAFLW for South Fremantle last week with the Bulldogs going scoreless up against reigning premiers East Fremantle.

They will be hoping for a better performance this Sunday and they have made wholesale changes as a result.

Emily Boothman, Casey Byrne, Ebony Clarkson, Darcy Clements, Taylah Cruttenden, Sarah du Plessis, Tara Garlett, Tasha McAlpine and Kiara Templeman all come into the South Fremantle team.

Tanika Adams, Tahlia Dawson-Gibbs, Hannah Felton, Ella Higgins, Cali Hunt, Lara Rodin-Zimdahl, Chae-Lee Salbie, Kara Turley and Maya Tyrrell are the players to make way in the Bulldogs’ line-up.

MORE HISTORY MADE BY BULLDOGS IN WAFLW DEBUT

Peel also lost last Saturday but last year’s wooden spooners produced an improved performance against Swan Districts.

From that side, Kate Ditchburn, Demi Liddle and Demi Okely come in for the Thunder as Savannah Ahearn, Kaylah Bradshaw and Shantae Freeman go out.

Meanwhile, South Fremantle’s reserves and Youth Girls teams will be heading the Provident Financial Oval in Joondalup on Sunday.

The reserves contest takes place against West Perth from 1pm with South Fremantle attempting to bounce back from another heavy defeat last Sunday at the hands of East Fremantle.

The in the Rogers Cup contest, South Fremantle’s Youth Girls side takes on West Perth at Joondalup from 10.30am with the Bulldogs looking to back up a strong win over the Sharks last Sunday.
