WAFLW – BULLDOGS FALL TO ANOTHER UNBEATEN TEAM

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle battled hard on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Logistics Stadium but for the second straight week in the WAFLW went down to an undefeated team with Subiaco winning by 37 points.

The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the WAFLW season last week against the also undefeated Claremont before taking on a Subiaco team who has been mighty impressive so far in 2025.

South Fremantle managed just the one goal on the afternoon which came from Zoe Huggett in the third quarter with Subiaco ending up scoring the 6.11 (47) to 1.4 (10) victory.

South Fremantle now sits on a 3-2 record after the opening five rounds of the 2025 season to be in fourth position heading into the break in the competition this week for the State game against South Australia.

Hunter Cronin finished with 19 possessions for the Bulldogs with Hannah Burt picking up 18 disposals to go with laying seven tackles and having five hit outs.

Caitlin Pears also picked up 17 possessions and laid nine tackles while Renee Morgan gathered 17 touches, Madizen Wilkins 14, Holly Ifould 13, Lauren Vecchio 12, Alyssa Smogavec 10 and Jessica Watts 10.

South Fremantle did manage the first score of the game which was a behind to Zoe Huggett, but Subiaco had the only other five scores of the opening term which were all behinds as well.

The first goal of the game went the way of Maggie MacLachlan for Subiaco five minutes into the second quarter. The Lions added two more before half-time to be leading by 24 points at the main break.

South Fremantle did kick a goal in the third quarter thanks to Huggett but the Lions answered with another two of their own to be leading by 29 points at three quarter-time.

The undefeated Lions kicked another goal to close the game and secure the 37-point win to keep their perfect record going on home turf.

The action on Saturday at Sullivan Logistics Stadium wrapped up with the Rogers Cup contest and that saw South Fremantle score the 3.9 (27) to 3.2 (20) victory against Subiaco.

It was a goal apiece in the opening quarter before Subiaco kicked the only goal of the second term to go into half-time leading by six points.

But the Bulldogs took control in the second half creating eight scoring chances in the third period but only managing to convert one of them into a goal with scores all level at the last change.

South Fremantle then kicked the only goal of the final quarter to score the seven-point win and to improve to a 3-2 record on the season at the end of five rounds.

The Bulldogs goals were kicked by Shaya Yarran, Ava Hutchinson and Tanaya Prentice while Alexis Edgley, Madison Hadley and Imogen Stanners were among the other standout performers.
