WAFL – BULLDOGS HAMMER LIONS BY 103 POINTS

South Fremantle will enter the WA Day Derby next Monday on top of the WAFL on the back of producing the first triple-figure result of the season beating Subiaco by 103 points on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were back in action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday following the State game break playing host to a Lions team trying to snap a four-game losing slide.
South Fremantle didn’t take long to take control of the contest with the opening five goals before then also kicking the only seven of the final term on the way to the 18.14 (122) to 2.7 (19) victory.
The 103-point margin is the biggest result of the WAFL season so far with South Fremantle improving to a 6-1 record to sit in top position while it’s East Fremantle in second also at 6-1 ahead of the WA Day Derby next Monday.
Trey Ruscoe kicked another five goals in the win for the Bulldogs with Brandon Donaldson adding four and premiership captain Dylan Main three in his first appearance in the league side of 2025.
Jake Florenca continued his standout form in the midfield for South Fremantle with another 35 possessions, six tackles and a goal with Matthew Parker also ending up with 30 touches, nine tackles, seven marks and kicking 1.4.
Tom Blechynden racked up another 28 disposals, Matthew Ward 24 (10 tackles), Isiah Winder 20, Aaron Drage 20, Jaxon Artemis 20, Lewis Rayson 19 and Jamaine Jones 19 while Hamish Free had 60 hit outs in the ruck.
It took less than 30 seconds for South Fremantle to make the perfect start to the contest with Brandon Donaldson kicking a goal.
Trey Ruscoe then kicked three goals in the space of 12 minutes with Jake Florenca adding another in between them and that saw South Fremantle in control leading by 24 points at quarter-time despite a late goal to Subiaco.
It took almost eight minutes for the first goal of the second term but that also went the way of the Bulldogs thanks to Matthew Parker.
Returning premiership captain Dylan Main then added another as did Aaron Drage and South Fremantle held Subiaco scoreless the entire second term to go into half-time leading by 48 points.
South Fremantle also kicked the first three goals of the third term thanks to Donaldson with the first two and then another to Isiah Winder before heading into three quarter-time leading by 62 points.
The Bulldogs then piled on the pain with the only seven goals of the last term including a couple to start things off to Main in his first game of the season, and a fourth and fifth to Ruscoe, on the way to the 103-point thumping win.
The start to the day at Fremantle Community Bank Oval saw South Fremantle’s colts retain top spot on the ladder with the 10.9 (69) to 5.8 (38) victory against Subiaco.
South Fremantle did kick two goals to one in the first quarter to be leading by three points at quarter-time before the Lions did manage to take an eight-point advantage into half-time.
The Bulldogs kicked the only two goals of the third quarter and then five goals to one in the last term on the way to the 31-point victory to improve to a 5-1 record and consolidate top spot in the colts.
Cian Bushe-Jones kicked another five goals in the win for South Fremantle while Jacob Donald had a huge performance with three goals to go with 29 possessions.
Lucas Robinson also collected 24 disposals for the Bulldogs, Noah Roberts 21, Zac Godwin 20, Aston Clissold 15 and Jack McAuliffe 15 while Byron Foster had 37 hit outs in the ruck.
Then in the reserves contest at Fremantle Community Bank Oval, South Fremantle scored the thumping 14.15 (99) to 7.4 (46) victory to improve to third position on the ladder with a 4-2 record.
Hudson Pivac and Cooper Clarke-Dehring kicked three goals apiece in the win for South Fremantle with Ashton Ferreira, Bailey Harbour and Jordan Douglas all chipping in with two.
Roan O’Hehir returned from injury with 28 possessions and a goal for the Bulldogs with Toby Dodds picking up 25 disposals, Riley Colborne 23, Nick Stuhldreier 23, Jack Green 20 (13 tackles), Ferreira 19, Robbie Turnbull 18 and Solomon James 15 to go with 52 hit outs in the ruck.
