WAFLW – BULLDOGS MAKE A STATEMENT

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle produced their most impressive performance of the WAFLW season at home on Saturday holding Subiaco goalless and handing the Lions a first defeat of 2025 with the 43-point victory.

The Bulldogs were coming off being the first team to lose to Perth in the WAFLW the previous week ahead of the significant challenge of hosting the league-leading and undefeated Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

South Fremantle went on to put in a tremendous performance to keep their finals hopes alive with the 7.6 (48) to 0.5 (5) victory that improves the Bulldogs to a 6-5 record to be only percentage behind the fourth placed West Perth.

Shannyn Pomersbach, Jasmine Bazeley and Alira Fotu all kicked two goals apiece in the win for South Fremantle.

Liusaidh Gilchrist finished with 16 possessions while Tahleah Mulder gathered 15 disposals (12 tackles), Lauren Vecchio 15, Fotu 15, Madison Hadley 13, Eva Flynn 13, Hunter Cronin 11, Ella Matthews 11, Annalie Polimeno 11, Ella Ward 11 and Hannah Burt 11 to go with 18 hit outs and 11 tackles.

It was a big task for South Fremantle up against the undefeated Subiaco but the Bulldogs made a strong start including kicking the first goal of the game after just three minutes thanks to Alira Fotu.

Shannyn Pomersbach also kicked another goal for South Fremantle before quarter-time to give her team the 14-point lead.

There was only one point scored between both teams in the second quarter and that was to Subiaco but the Bulldogs remained on top to the tune of 13 points going into the half-time break.

South Fremantle managed to kick the only goal of the third quarter to extend the lead to 20 points by three quarter-time and then it was all the Bulldogs in the last term.

South Fremantle kicked four goals in the final quarter to just two behinds from Subiaco to secure the 43-point win and to hand the Lions a first loss of 2025.

The day’s action started at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the Rogers Cup match up and it was South Fremantle scoring the 3.0 (18) to 1.6 (12) victory against Subiaco.

It was a goal apiece in the first quarter and then neither team managed one in the second term with Subiaco narrowly leading by three points.

South Fremantle managed two goals to no score from Subiaco in the third quarter and that set up the eventual six-point win which improves them to five wins, five losses and a draw on the season to be just half a game out of fourth position.

Shakeeyah Dempster kicked two goals in the win for the Bulldogs with the other goal from Olivia Henderson with Ava Ritchie, Shaya Yarran, Lina Morrone and Coco McGrath other strong performers.
