WAFLW – BULLDOGS SEASON ENDS AT JOONDALUP
Author: South Fremantle Football Club
South Fremantle had to win and win big against West Perth at Joondalup on Friday night to play finals this WAFLW season, but it wasn’t to be with the Falcons ending up winning by 12 points.
It was a must-win situation for both West Perth and South Fremantle in the final round match up at HIF Health Insurance Oval on Friday night as they needed a win and then to try and make up the percentage gap on the fourth placed East Fremantle.
In the end, West Perth secured the 8.7 (55) to 6.7 (43) victory against South Fremantle but it wasn’t enough for the Falcons and both teams will now not take part in the finals action for 2025.
Shannyn Pomersbach ended up kicking two goals for South Fremantle on Friday night from nine possessions.
Bailey Hunt also gathered 14 disposals to go with four tackles and a goal for the Bulldogs.
Tahleah Mulder finished with 13 possessions, Hannah Burt 12, Renee Morgan 12, Jessica Watts 11, Hunter Cronin 10, Annalie Polimeno 10 and Charlie Vandenberg nine to go with 21 hit outs in the ruck.
It was cold and it was wet by the time the game got underway just after 7:30pm on Friday night and it didn’t take West Perth long to warm to the task with two goals inside the opening six minutes.
South Fremantle did respond courtesy of Annalie Polimeno with Shannyn Pomersbach also kicking another before quarter-time to limit the West Perth lead by quarter-time to 13 points.
The Bulldogs started the second term impressively with a goal to Pomersbach and Bailey Hunter soon added another for South Fremantle to draw back level before West Perth ended up narrowly leading by six points at half-time.
West Perth were able to take control in the third quarter holding South Fremantle scoreless while kicking two goals and even though the Bulldogs kept fighting with goals to Jess Watts and Madison Hadley in the last term, the Falcons still secured the 12-point victory.
The action on Friday night at Joondalup got underway with the Rogers Cup contest and it wasn’t the end to the season that South Fremantle was looking for with West Perth ending up winning 10.9 (69) to 0.2 (2).
West Perth kicked three goals in the first quarter, four in the second, one in the third and two more in the fourth while holding South Fremantle to the two behinds on the evening for the eventual 67-point victory.
The Bulldogs didn’t manage a goal for the contest but the best performers in the last game for the Rogers Cup team of 2025 were Tanaya Prentice, Poppy James, Izabella Stuart, Niamh Sherry and Katy Elliott.
