WAFLW – BULLDOGS SUFFER FIRST 2025 LOSS ON GOOD FRIDAY

South Fremantle did throw everything at a first ever win in the WAFLW competition against Claremont but it wasn’t quite to be with the Tigers securing the 22-point win on Good Friday.
The Good Friday action took place at Revo Fitness Stadium with South Fremantle and Claremont putting unbeaten WAFLW records on the line with the Bulldogs also attempting to beat the Tigers for the first time in the competition.
Despite a standout performance from reigning South Fremantle fairest and best winner Poppy Stockwell, it was Claremont who remained unbeaten to start the season with the 7.5 (47) to 4.1 (25) win on their home turf.
South Fremantle now sits on a 3-1 record four rounds into the season with Stockwell delivering a performance made up of 17 possessions, six marks, three tackles and three goals.
South Fremantle’s other goal was kicked by Ella Ward with Tahleah Mulder also compiling 17 disposals and 12 tackles.
Alyssa Smogavec also gathered 16 possessions (11 tackles), Ella Matthews 16, Hannah Burt 16, Madizen Wilkins 15 (six tackles), Pippa Sideris 12 and Liusaidh Gilchrist nine to go with 17 hit outs and three marks.
The Bulldogs were attempting to beat the Tigers for the first time, but Claremont had the only four scoring shots in the first quarter including goals to Sarah Viney and Taylah Orzel to lead by 14 points at quarter-time.
Claremont then also managed the first two goals of the second term to push that lead out to 26 points before South Fremantle’s first score of the game was a goal to Ella Ward at the eight-minute mark of that second stanza.
Poppy Stockwell also added another just before half-time which cut the Claremont lead to 16 points at the main break.
The Bulldogs came out firing to start the second half with a second goal to Stockwell to make the margin nine points before the Tigers did finish the third quarter with a couple of goals to be leading again by 21 points at three quarter-time.
Claremont kicked the first goal again of the fourth quarter before Stockwell did add a third but the Tigers still managed to stay unbeaten against the Bulldogs with the 22-point win.
The Good Friday action at Revo Fitness Stadium began with the Rogers Cup match up and it was a tight contest with Claremont just managing to prevail 3.10 (28) to 3.5 (23) against South Fremantle.
The Bulldogs did kick the only goal of the first quarter before the Tigers kicked the only goal too of the second term which saw them leading by six points at half-time.
It was then a goal apiece in the third quarter with Claremont clinging to the seven-point lead at three quarter-time before it was also one goal each in the final term with the Tigers ending up winning by five points.
South Fremantle’s goals were kicked by Khesan Starr, Ayvah Rioli and Maningning Morales while Shayla Templeton, Katy Elliott, Shaya Yarran, Ava Hutchinson and Poppy James were among the strong performers.
