WAFLW – BULLDOGS TOO GOOD FOR ROYALS

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle returned to the winner’s list for the first time since Round 3 with the 15-point victory against East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

The Bulldogs started the 2025 season impressively in the WAFLW with wins against East Fremantle, Perth and Peel Thunder before losing to undefeated teams Subiaco and Claremont prior to last week’s break for the State game.

They were back home at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday afternoon to play host to East Perth and the Bulldogs kept the Royals scoreless through the first three quarters, and to one goal for the entire game.

South Fremantle ended up securing the 3.7 (25) to 1.4 (10) victory to improve to a 4-2 record on the season and to be sitting in fourth position on the WAFLW ladder by the end of six rounds.

Zoe Huggett continued her strong season so far in front of goal for South Fremantle kicking another two goals from her nine kicks, five tackles and eight hit outs.

Tahleah Mulder backed up a strong showing for the WAFLW against the SANFLW in last week’s State game at the Adelaide Oval by delivering 19 possessions, seven tackles and a goal for South Fremantle on Saturday.

Hannah Burt also collected 21 possessions for the Bulldogs, Ella Matthews 17, Bailey Hunt 17, Renee Morgan 16 (nine tackles), Madizen Wilkins 13, Tara Stribley 12 and Kate Newson 11 to go with 31 hit outs in the ruck.

Scoring was tough to come by in the first half of the contest with just the one behind to start things off in opening quarter from South Fremantle’s Shaya Yarran.

The only score of the second term was then also a behind by South Fremantle from Pippa Sideris which meant the Bulldogs went into the half-time break leading by those two points.

The game finally got its first goal at the two-minute mark of the third quarter and to nobody’s surprise, it was kicked by Zoe Huggett for South Fremantle.

She added a second just two minutes later and suddenly the lead for the Bulldogs was out to 18 points by three quarter-time.

South Fremantle also kicked the last goal of the game thanks to Tahleah Mulder to secure the 15-point victory to retain their hold on a top four position in the WAFLW.

The Rogers Cup match up started the day at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday and it was a thrilling match up with South Fremantle scoring the 4.6 (30) to 4.5 (29) victory over East Perth.

Neither team managed to kick a goal in the first quarter but South Fremantle then kicked two goals to one in the second term to head into half-time leading by six points.

East Perth then hit back with two goals to one in the third quarter to set up a thrilling finish and it was the Bulldogs ending up claiming the one-point win in a heart stopping finish.

Zoe Keley kicked two of the four goals in the game for South Fremantle with the others courtesy of Holly Barnes and Belle Cattalini.
