WINDER STARS AS BULLDOGS KEEP WINNING

SOUTH Fremantle made it four straight wins this WAFL season with Isiah Winder starring in the eventual 37-point victory against Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The Bulldogs were back home on Saturday afternoon putting their winning streak on the line and they would end up kicking the first three goals of the game, and the only five goals of the second half against the Demons.

South Fremantle would go on to score the 10.14 (74) to 4.13 (37) victory to now have won four straight matches to improve to a 4-1 record in third position on the WAFL ladder.

There was a lot to like once again in the performance from South Fremantle to make it four straight wins with Isiah Winder showing how well he is settling in with a best on ground performance.

Winder produced a game made up of 30 possessions, nine marks and three goals.

He would be the only multiple goalkicker in the game with Tom Blechynden also amassing 27 possessions for the Bulldogs, Haiden Schloithe 26, Roan O’Hehir 23 and Ashton Ferreira while Josh Branchi racked up 35 hit outs.

The South Fremantle back-line was outstanding as well with Chad Pearson finishing with 21 disposals and five marks, Toby McQuilkin 20 touches and six marks, Glenn Byron 17 possessions and six marks, and Jordan Boullineau 10 disposals and three marks.

It took just over seven minutes for the first goal of the contest and that went the way of South Fremantle thanks to Zac Strom.

Isiah Winder then added another for the Bulldogs soon after and then just over 10 minutes later heading into time-on, he added a second and South Fremantle were off to a flying start with the game’s first three majors.

Perth did respond before quarter-time with a couple of goals of their own but the Demons still went into the first break leading by seven points.

The Bulldogs then started the second quarter strongly too starting with a goal to Roan O’Hehir and then another to Chad Pearson in what was his first goal as captain, and just his eighth in his 118-game career.

Perth was able to respond once again with the game’s next two goals through Harry Quartermaine and then former Bulldog Blake Schlensog with South Fremantle still clinging to a seven-point advantage at the main break.

Haiden Schloithe gave South Fremantle the first goal of the second half and then the Bulldogs continued to further pull away with goals to Manfred Kelly, Winder and Tom Blechynden to open up a 35-point advantage by three quarter-time.

The only goal of the last quarter also went the way of South Fremantle thanks to Luke Polson and the home team would go on to win by 37 points and make it four wins in-a-row this season.

It was the Colts Super Round on Saturday with all four games held at Joondalup’s Pentanet Stadium and that saw South Fremantle open its account for the season with the 8.12 (60) to 4.7 (31) against Perth.

After the Demons kicked the only three goals of the first quarter, the Bulldogs hit back with the only four of the second term and then with three goals to nil in the final stanza they scored the 29-point win.

Mitchell Geier, Riley Plunkett and Max Orzanski all kicked two goals apiece for South Fremantle with Geier also racking up 24 possessions, Fred Rodriguez 21, Tom Bell 21, Tyler Rowe 20 and Millar Rank 15 to go with 12 tackles.

South Fremantle’s reserves also were impressive in the 13.17 (95) to 7.7 (49) victory against Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Ed Graham kicked four goals for the Bulldogs with Tyson Kelly adding two as did Aaron Drage to go with 33 possessions, eight marks and eight entries inside the forward 50.

Toby Dodds also gathered 24 disposals for South Fremantle, Jarrod Salmeri 24, Jaxon Bellchambers 20, Jacob Sax 19, Tyson Kelly 19, Callum Copeland 19 and Mitch Sinnott 18.
