The Inside Word | Kade Stewart Player Column Round 4
WHEN I was asked to write a column this week I thought a good place to start would be with why I've decided to come back to South Fremantle this year and how much I'm enjoying being back after three years away.
Firstly, my decision to come back to Souths was to get back into real competitive footy again and also grow my footy again after the delisting of Hawthorn. Souths was going to be the club where I was going to get my footy back to its best again.
The group has been really good, except Haiden Schloithe and his shit jokes.
It's an exciting time for the club with seeing a lot of younger blokes having to fill the void of the huge number of gun retirees from the club last year.
The start of the season was a good start for myself and the team with getting over Swan Districts and getting my hands on it a bit also in the midfield.
The second game against Perth was a different role for me with being moved forward more than in the midfield. But if that's what the team wants and need then I'm willing to do that.
Finally my decision to head home last year after being delisted from Hawthorn was to get back to just really enjoying my footy.
The delisting came as a bit of a shock really and I was thinking that I was performing on the good side rather than the bad.
So to be sitting in the unknown for two months on whether I will get a new contract really drained me physically and mentally.
It took a massive toll on me to be honest and it was a pretty tough time just with the unknown of what was happening. I thought I was playing pretty well but was given no indication of what was to come.
I don't regret anything I did and now it's just a matter of moving onwards and upwards.
