Bulldogs overrun after strong showing against Falcons

Monday, August 24, 2015 - 11:31 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle couldn’t quite finish the job against the second-placed West Perth at Fremantle Oval on Saturday in Craig White's final game at home and with a host of youngsters showing exciting signs for the future.

South Fremantle might have been out of the finals race no matter the result and West Perth needed to win to guarantee second spot on the ladder, but the Bulldogs stuck pace with the Falcons all afternoon and even hit the front early in the last quarter.

However, West Perth managed to kick the last four goals of the game to win 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62) with South Fremantle to now finish the 2015 WAFL season on Saturday against Peel Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium looking to avoid ending with a four-game losing streak.

Round 22 Preview v West Perth

Friday, August 21, 2015 - 9:37 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle will host its final home game of the 2015 WAFL season this Saturday at Fremantle Oval looking to put in an improved showing against the second-placed West Perth.

South Fremantle is now out of finals contention having lost its last three matches but Saturday will be the Bulldogs' final game for the season at Fremantle Oval and they will be looking to find some form, and to build some momentum into the pre-season and to build on in 2016.

West Perth, meanwhile, is now looking solid in second position having beaten East Fremantle and Swan Districts the last two weeks to be in pole position to remain in that second spot and to secure a home final at HBF Arena in the first week.

Retiring Craig White reflects on the biggest influences on his career

Friday, August 21, 2015 - 2:55 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle life member and dual premiership star Craig White looks set to finish his decorated career against Peel Thunder and that could be a fitting end after it was only the efforts of Marty Atkins that saw him not play with the Mandurah-based club in the first place.

Having grown up in Williams and having his parents live in Mandurah once he'd finished school at Aquinas College, White was weighing up whether or not to remain at South Fremantle or join Peel Thunder ahead of the 2004 WAFL season following the colts premiership.

A meeting with Peel coach and former Geelong AFL champion Garry Hocking had him on the verge of agreeing to join the Thunder, but the efforts of Bulldogs games record holder and then football manager Atkins ended up seeing White remain at South Fremantle.

More youngsters to get chance to shine for Bulldogs

Friday, August 21, 2015 - 1:38 PM - by Chris Pike

WHILE one South Fremantle great prepares for the last two games of his decorated WAFL career, a host of other youngsters are at the beginning of theirs and there likely will be another pair of brothers out on Fremantle Oval against West Perth this Saturday.

The announcement that Craig White will be retiring at the end of the season means that there is only two dual premiership players from 2005 and 2009 left to continue on beyond 2015 at South Fremantle, and they just happen to be twins, Ashton and Kyle Hams.

South Fremantle has always prided itself on being the family club and that's been followed through on and off the field, and now another pair of brothers look set to take on the Falcons this Saturday.

Player Column – Jarrod Parry Round 22

Friday, August 21, 2015 - 9:21 AM - by Jarrod Parry

IT WAS disappointing to hear Whitey call in the playing group, coaches, support staff and board members prior to training on Tuesday and announce his retirement.

He has been an integral player to the club for over a decade and his playing record speaks for itself with one colts, one reserves, two league flags and 190-plus league games. It is something many players would be envy of, but it’s a phenomenal achievement!

One of Whitey’s strengths that stand out to me is the way he leads every session with his training standards on the track. His intensity and willingness to improve each session forces players to improve with him, which leads to overall success.
