BLAYNE Wilson came to South Fremantle hoping to put some finals heartache behind him and while it took some more pain along the way, he has now got the taste of a WAFL premiership and he isn’t sure he's experienced anything better in his life.

Wilson started his football as a rising star with Peel Thunder going on to be drafted by the West Coast Eagles where he'd play nine AFL matches, but it was at East Perth in the WAFL that his finals pain really started to hit home.

He was part of back-to-back Grand Final losses with the Royals where they went in as favourites on both occasions against West Perth in 2013 and Subiaco in 2014.

FOR so many reasons Haiden Schloithe could have written off 2020, but in the end it will be a year to forever treasure as he became a WAFL premiership player with South Fremantle and he dedicated the triumph to his late grandad.

Schloithe has had a remarkably decorated career over the last decade since he made the move from Katanning up to Perth and to start playing at South Fremantle following in the footsteps of local legends Ashton and Kyle Hams.

It started off great guns with a colts premiership and being drafted to the Fremantle Dockers, but the wait for a flag at league level with the Bulldogs has been a long road since even if Schloithe has racked up the individual awards along the way.

HIS father might still be the head of the table but Jason Maskos is coming armed to Christmas with more and more ammunition every year now as a colts, reserves and league WAFL premiership player with South Fremantle.

Maskos has spent his whole life hearing about the football career that his father Arthur had with South Fremantle. 

Playing in the famous era of 1980s and early 1990s surrounded by superstars and sporting a moustache he still dons to this day, Arthur became a popular figure at the Bulldogs during his 90-game career that finished with al one appearance in the 1992 WAFL season.

TODD Curley became a premiership coach as South Fremantle defeated Claremont at Fremantle Community Bank Oval by three points in the 2020 WAFL Grand Final, and he had plenty to reflect upon but really what he is most happy about is to give the players the chance to celebrate.

QUESTION: You know what this feels like as a player Todd, but that was 17 years ago the last time you experienced it, what's this feeling like as a coach?
ANSWER: Thanks for reminding me it was 17 years ago. I'm just so happy for the players more than anything. I've been able to experience it as a player so I know how special it is and we've got some boys here who have been with me for the whole six years. But they have shown amazing resilience and not everything has worked out perfectly for us while we've been here, but they keep fronting up, digging in and trying to do the right thing. I'm just so happy for them. It was a pretty good game and both teams had periods where they looked like they were in control of the game, and it was a tricky breeze to kick into and we both probably missed some opportunities. But once it gets to that last 15 minutes there's not much you can do, you just hope that the things you've trained for and prepared for work out. I'm just over the moon for them.

IT will be a day on Sunday no one involved will ever forget with South Fremantle beating Claremont by three points in a remarkable WAFL Grand Final with the Bulldogs celebrating a premiership for the first ever time at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

A crowd of 10,179 turned out for the occasion to pack Fremantle Community Bank Oval and create a brilliant atmosphere with the venue packed to capacity as it hosted a WAFL Grand Final for the first time since 1910.

It was the first time since 1935 that the WAFL Grand Final hadn’t been played at Western Australia's premier venue of either Subiaco Oval or Optus Stadium, and it proved a remarkable success in every measurable way.

SOUTH Fremantle has a chance to win its first WAFL premiership since 2009, its first ever on home turf at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and a 14th overall all in one hit in Sunday's Grand Final against Claremont.

For the first time ever South Fremantle will play in a WAFL Grand Final at Fremantle Community Bank Oval this Sunday in what will be the fifth overall premiership decider held at the venue, and the first since 1910.

A sold out crowd is expected to fill the ground for the occasion with the Bulldogs to host the Tigers in what is a rematch of the second semi-final two weeks ago, and both the qualifying and preliminary finals from 2019.

I AM super excited now for Sunday's Grand Final on our home ground and I do have some premiership experience behind me, but if we are able to get up against Claremont then it will be the most special one to me for sure.

It's certainly unique that I've already won premierships at two different clubs. When I was at Fremantle in the AFL originally I was aligned to Claremont and we won a premiership in 2012, but then a few years later all the Fremantle players went to Peel Thunder. I was then lucky enough to play in those two premiership at Peel.

Looking back to last week's prelim, there definitely were a few doubters out there, we heard a bit of that during the week but we always had belief with what we have been doing and for us we try to treat every game like it's Grand Final day. So whether it's Round 1, 2, 5 or preliminary final day, we've been practicing for the Grand Final and I thought the boys got back to doing what they do best with that pressure around the ball. We were confident going into the week and I thought the boys were really good.

PLAYING through the finals without a break is something South Fremantle coach Todd Curley believes will work in the favour of the Bulldogs coming into Sunday's Grand Final against Claremont.

Coming off playing in three straight preliminary finals and then breaking through to reach a Grand Final in 2019, South Fremantle took the next step in 2020 after four straight second place finishes to claim the minor premiership after winning the opening seven games of the season.

The form in the last round to lose to Perth and then in the second semi-final to lose to Claremont might not have been the type of football they were playing early on, but the Bulldogs did recapture something close to that with the 21-point victory over West Perth in the preliminary final.

THERE is the chance for something special to celebrate a WAFL premiership for South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday, but captain Dylan Main is firmly focused on getting the Bulldogs just to play at their best.

South Fremantle has the rare chance a win a premiership on home soil at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday afternoon with the 2020 WAFL Grand Final against Claremont played there, but there's no complacency amongst the Bulldogs just because of that.

Part of the reason for that is the fact that just two weeks ago in the second semi-final at the very same venue Claremont beat South Fremantle by 47 points to book their Grand Final spot and force South Fremantle into a preliminary final after finishing the home and away season on top of the ladder.
