Delivering when it matters most the focus for Bulldogs

Friday, April 6, 2018 - 11:37 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle has put together two strong WAFL seasons reaching two preliminary finals but coach Todd Curley knows for the Bulldogs to take the next step they need to start being able to deliver when it matters most against powerhouses like Peel Thunder and Subiaco.

Having not played finals between 2012 and 2015, South Fremantle became a top team again by 2016 in Curley's second season at the helm as coach.

They finished both the 2016 and 2017 seasons in second position at the end of the home and away campaigns. In 2016, they went on to thrash West Perth in the qualifying final before losing to Subiaco in the second semi-final and then Peel Thunder in the preliminary final.

Garlett thrives on AFL return with brother cheering him on

Friday, April 6, 2018 - 8:38 AM - by Chris Pike

HAVING returned home last year and being prepared to give up his AFL dream to be nearer his sick brother, Jarrod Garlett returned strongly to South Fremantle in 2017 and couldn’t be happier to now be back in the big time at Carlton and to have had that same brother there to cheer him up.

Garlett was initially taken at selection No. 15 by the Gold Coast Suns in the 2014 AFL Draft and went on to play 17 games over the next two seasons, looking on track to build himself a strong career in the big time.

But family came first. His brother was dealing with some serious health concerns and he just couldn’t bring himself to remain living over the other side of the country while that was happening.

Dedication pays off as Kelly prepares for AFL debut

Saturday, March 24, 2018 - 4:20 PM - by Chris Pike

Kelly came through the ranks at South Fremantle and was part of a successful colts team as a talented junior. He was able to quickly translate that into becoming a regular league player with the Bulldogs by the second half of the 2012 season.

He continued to improve year on year with it a surprise that he hadn’t been put on an AFL list by the time the 2017 season started. But by the finish of last season, Kelly could no longer be ignored having had a simply brilliant season in a Bulldogs team that reached a second straight preliminary final.
