WAFL | DOGS WIN TO CELEBRATE FLORENCA’S CENTURY

South Fremantle had to hold out a fast-finishing Subiaco but did enough for the three-point victory on Saturday with Jake Florenca starring in his 100th appearance with the Bulldogs.

South Fremantle hit back last week beating West Perth after their winning streak was snapped the week before against Claremont as they arrived at Sullivan Logistics Stadium to take on Subiaco on Saturday.

The Bulldogs managed to build a 23-point lead early in the fourth quarter and then despite the Lions kicking four of the last five goals, South Fremantle held on for the 11.6 (72) to 10.9 (69) victory to improve to a 4-1 record after the opening five rounds.

Jordan Boullineau continues to find his feet in his new role in the forward-line for South Fremantle kicking three goals from seven kicks and seven marks with Trey Roscoe and Lucas Robinson also kicking two goals apiece.

Florenca celebrated his 100th game by delivering a best-on-ground performance made up of 35 possessions, five inside-50 entries, three tackles and a goal.

Jamaine Jones also picked up 23 disposals, Chad Pearson 22, Chase Bourne 22, Jacob Sax 21, Ethan Hughes 20, Tom Blechynden 20, Lewis Rayson 18, Isiah Winder 18, Toby Dodds 18 and Aaron Drage 18.

West Love also made his debut for South Fremantle and held down the ruck role in the absence of the injured Hamish Free. He finished with nine possessions and 25 hit outs.

South Fremantle made a flying start to the contest with a goal inside the first two minutes to young gun Lucas Robinson.

The teams would then trade goals with Jordan Boullineau kicking another for the Bulldogs but Subiaco kicked two themselves up the other end.

Trey Ruscoe then managed a couple for the Bulldogs but the Lions also responded with two more which saw South Fremantle clinging to the two-point advantage by quarter-time.

Jake Florenca marked his 100th game with a goal to start the second quarter and then Robinson kicked a second to put the Bulldogs out to a 14-point lead.

Subiaco hit back with the last two goals of the half and that saw the home team heading into the break leading by a solitary point.

Aidan Harvey then gave South Fremantle the perfect start to the second with a goal to restore the five-point lead for his team. Boullineau kicked a second for the Bulldogs to head into three quarter-time leading by 11 points.

The margin was then out to 23 with the first two goals of the last term to Aaron Drage and Boullineau before the Bulldogs held out the fast-finishing Lions for the three-point victory.

The action got underway at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the Colts match up and that saw South Fremantle score the 12.13 (85) to 7.10 (52) victory against Subiaco.

The win leaves the Bulldogs as the lone undefeated team still in the Colts with five wins across the opening five matches of the season.

It was a fast start from South Fremantle with three goals to one in the first quarter to be leading by 12 points at the first break before another four goals to two in the second term.

That had the Bulldogs on top by 23 points heading into half-time ahead of three goals each in the third quarter.

South Fremantle then kicked two goals to one in the last quarter on the way to the 33-point win to continue their unbeaten start to the Colts season.

Jarrah Hayden kicked three goals in the win for the Bulldogs and Sam Hookham two.

Chace Vanderhoek also picked up 24 possessions, Jarra Mallard 23, Dylan Noble 21, Riley Stannard 20, Chayse Parsons 20, Zac Godwin 16 and Jack McAuliffe 15.

That led into the Reserves contest and it was a thumping 17.14 (116) to 6.5 (41) win for South Fremantle against Subiaco with the Bulldogs improving to a 2-3 record for the season as a result.

The Bulldogs kicked three goals to two in the first quarter to be leading the Lions by nine points before another three to one in the second led to the 20-point half-time advantage.

South Fremantle then managed another four goals to two in the third quarter and seven to one in the last on the way to the thumping 75-point triumph.

Jermaine Pickett kicked four goals for the bulldogs, Cooper Clarke-Dehring three, Connor McDonald two and Byron McFarland two.

Jack Green also gathered 28 possessions, Jacob Donald 24, McFarland 22, Riley Colborne 20, Sam Otto 20 and Lachlan Princi 18.
