WAFLW | BULLDOGS DOWN THUNDER

South Fremantle will head into the State game break in winning form in the WAFLW following Saturday’s 13-point victory at home against Peel Thunder.

The Bulldogs returned to the winner’s list last week against Subiaco and were looking to back up against Peel at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

South Fremantle worked on top with four goals to one in the second quarter to be leading by five points at half-time and then converted that into the eventual 9.3 (57) to 7.2 (44) victory.

That means that after seven rounds of the WAFLW season, South Fremantle sit in fifth position on the ladder with three wins, three losses and a draw.

Shannyn Pomersbach kicked another two goals in the win for South Fremantle with two each as well to Jess Watts and Tahleah Mulder, who also finished with 14 possessions and six tackles.

Tash Entwistle continued her standout first season with the Bulldogs with another 18 possessions and six tackles as well.

Madi Evans also gathered 16 disposals, Ash Gomes 15, Brianna Cleggett 13, Ella Matthews 13, Tara Stribley 13 and Makaela Tuhakaraina 12 to go with laying four tackles.

South Fremantle made the perfect start to the game at home with a goal to Shannyn Pomersbach after just three minutes before Peel did hit back with the next three to be leading by 14 points at quarter-time.

Charlie Vandenberg then gave the Bulldogs the ideal opening to the second term with a goal but Peel was back out by 14 points when they responded less than two minutes later.

Jess Watts and Pomersbach then answered with goals for South Fremantle and then Tahleah Mulder kicked another just before half-time to put the home team in front by five points at the main break.

Peel hit back with the first two of the second half to once more be up by seven only for South Fremantle to respond with goals to Ella Matthews and Mulder to be up by six at three quarter-time.

South Fremantle managed to put the result to bed with the first two goals of the last term courtesy of Watts and Madi Hadley on the way to the 13-point victory at home.

It was a winning start to the day for South Fremantle at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the 5.14 (44) to 2.2 (14) Rogers Cup victory against Peel Thunder.

The Bulldogs were the only team to score in the first quarter including kicking the game’s first goal to be leading by 10 points against the Thunder at quarter-time.

Peel also went scoreless in the second term with South Fremantle kicking two more goals to be in control heading into the half-time break with the 26-point advantage.

It was another two goals to one behind in the third term and then Peel did kick their lone two goals of the game in the final quarter but South Fremantle still went on to score the 30-point victory.

The win improves the Bulldogs to a 2-5 record for the season in the Rogers Cup by the end of Round 7.
