WAFL | BIG WIN OVER EAGLES
South Fremantle didn’t have it all their own way in the first half against the West Coast Eagles on Saturday but then kicked 13 goals to five in the second on the way to the commanding 61-point victory.
The Bulldogs bounced back from their first loss in a year against Claremont two weeks ago by beating Subiaco last week before returning to Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday afternoon against the Eagles.
South Fremantle were leading by 17 points at quarter-time but then just eight by half-time but the Bulldogs then took control with eight goals to two in the third term, and five to three in the last.
That secured the 19.11 (125) to 10.4 (64) victory to see South Fremantle head into the State game break with a 5-1 record to be in second place just behind the undefeated Claremont.
Cooper Clarke-Dehring made the most of his role in the forward-line for South Fremantle in the absence of Trey Ruscoe by kicking five goals from his nine kicks and four marks.
Jordan Boullineau also kicked another three goals with two each to all of Mitch Geier, Sam Otto, Aaron Drage, Lucas Robinson and Brandon Donaldson.
Fresh off his 100th game last week, Jake Florenca was outstanding again for South Fremantle with 30 possessions with Isiah Winder ending up with 28 disposals, Tom Blechynden 25, Ethan Hughes 23, Robinson 22, Lewis Rayson 19, Chad Pearson 18, Roan O’Hehir 17 and Chase Bourne 17.
South Fremantle made the perfect start with a goal inside the first two minutes to Sam Otto who was looking to make the most of his return to the League side.
Then after West Coast kicked their lone goal of the first term, Otto kicked a second for the Bulldogs and Jordan Boullineau and Cooper Clarke-Dehring added one each before quarter-time for the 18-point lead at the first break.
Then after West Coast kicked three of the first four goals to start the second period, the Bulldogs managed another through Lucas Robinson to get back out to a 13-point edge.
But that was back to just eight points at half-time with another goal to the Eagles just before the break.
It took less than a minute for Robinson to kick his second and get South Fremantle off to the perfect start of the second half before Clarke-Dehring added a second as well, and Brandon Donaldson pushed the lead out to 25 points, and Aaron Drage made it 32.
Jordan Boullineau also kicked two leading into three quarter-time and South Fremantle had opened up a 48-point advantage.
The Bulldogs went on with the job from there too with another five goals to three in the last quarter including two more to Clarke-Dehring to give him five for the afternoon with South Fremantle going on to score the 61-point victory.
