WAFLW | HADLEY KICKS WINNER FOR BULLDOGS
South Fremantle took part in another thrilling finish on Saturday evening against Perth and it was a late goal from Madi Hadley with a minute left that secured the two-point WAFLW victory.
South Fremantle took on Perth at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday evening with the game crucial for both teams in the battle over a top four position.
The Bulldogs kicked the only two goals of the first quarter but then didn’t manage another goal until there was a minute left in the contest.
Hadley kicked truly to put South Fremantle back in front and secure the eventual 3.6 (24) to 3.4 (22) victory to improve to a 6-5 record with a draw on the season to be in fourth position by the end of Round 13.
South Fremantle’s goals in the win were kicked by not only Hadley, but prior to that Lauren Vecchio and Annalie Polimeno, who also had 12 possessions and seven tackles for the game.
Tahleah Mulder had a massive evening for the Bulldogs finishing with 34 possessions, 10 tackles, five inside-50 entries and three marks.
Ash Gomes also collected 22 disposals, Madi Evans 20, Tara Stribley 20, Makaela Tuhakaraina 20, Ella Matthews 18 with eight tackles and seven inside 50s, and Jasmine Bazeley 17 along with five tackles.
South Fremantle was the only team to score in the opening quarter including goals to Annalie Polimeno and Lauren Vecchio to be leading by 14 points at quarter-time.
Perth then kicked the only goal of the second quarter but by half-time the Bulldogs were still leading by seven points.
Neither team managed a goal in the third term with South Fremantle leading still by eight points at three quarter-time before the Demons kicked the first two goals of the last quarter to go up by five points.
Pippa Sideris then couldn’t quite convert a chance to put South Fremantle back on top but Madi Hadley did kick truly with only a minute left in the game to secure the two-point victory for the Bulldogs.
The weekend’s action for South Fremantle wrapped up with the Rogers Cup clash with Perth on Sunday morning at Mineral Resources Park and it was the Bulldogs beating the Demons 6.11 (47) to 4.8 (32).
South Fremantle started well kicking two goals to one in the first quarter before holding Perth scoreless in the second term and kicking the only goal to go into the half-time break leading by 17 points.
Perth hit back with the only two goals of the third term and holding South Fremantle to the one-point and by three quarter-time the Bulldogs were clinging to just the one-point advantage.
South Fremantle then took back control in the last quarter with three goals to one on the way to the 15-point victory to improve to a 4-8 record on the season to be sitting in seventh position in the Rogers Cup.
Maddison Catley kicked three goals in the win for the Bulldogs with Maningning Morales adding two and Madeline Jarrett one.
