RD 13 WAFL PREVIEW | v SUBIACO

South Fremantle will look to get back on the WAFL winner’s list on Saturday and make it six wins in-a-row at the same time against Subiaco who they will host at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The Bulldogs will host Subiaco at home on Saturday with the League clash getting underway at 2:30pm with the contest pitting the fourth and fifth placed teams against one another highlighting the significance.

Despite last Saturday’s loss to Perth at Mineral Resources Park, South Fremantle remain in fourth position with a 6-5 record to be percentage ahead of the also 6-5 Subiaco who are coming off their own narrow four-point victory last Saturday at home at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

Having gone through a run of losing 14 of 16 games to Subiaco between 2014 and 2019, South Fremantle has had a good run against the Lions in recent times having now won the last five meetings between the two teams.

That included a thrilling three-point victory back in Round 5 this season at Sullivan Logistics Stadium with the Bulldogs holding out the fast-finishing Lions on a day where Jordan Boullineau kicked three goals, and Jake Florenca racked up 35 possessions, Jamaine Jones 23, Chad Pearson 22 and Chase Bourne 22.

South Fremantle assistant coach Cory Dell’Olio, who kicked 225 goals in his own 109-game career including the 2009 premiership, and is looking forward to the Bulldogs trying to get some momentum back into their flag defence.

“We had a really good game against them last time around and I know they’ve got a few guys back now as well, and have played some good footy,” Dell’Olio told 91.3 SportFM.

“They’ve probably had a similar season to us with a couple of down periods and then some strong form as well, and they’ve got Schofield back now as well and you’ve got guys like Mayo and Borchet up forward to give them a really potent look.

“Then they’ve got some quality backs as well so their talent across the ground is very strong and for us, and for them I guess, it’s an eight-point game and I think we’re going to have a fair few of them moving forward.

“It’s going to be an exciting game and we had a real close game against us last time when they challenged us especially late in the game so we’re expecting very similar, and it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out.”

South Fremantle will attempt to bounce back from last week’s loss to Perth with Jordan Boullineau, Tarkyn Etherington and Max Thomas into the line-up.

Going out for the Bulldogs are Ashton Ferreira, Toby Dodds and Sam Otto.

Subiaco are coming off beating Swan Districts last Saturday and have made just the one change from that team with Daniel Gathercole into the line-up and Lucas Blair going out.

The Colts match gets things underway at Fremantle Community Bank Oval at 9:15am on Saturday morning with South Fremantle taking on Subiaco.

The Bulldogs finished up with 1.19 last week in the 43-point loss to Perth despite having 20 scoring shots to 18 in the game while the Lions are coming off a strong 51-point victory against Swan Districts.

That leaves South Fremantle still in top spot of the Colts with an 8-2 record to be percentage ahead of Claremont while Subiaco are in fifth position at 4-6 and percentage ahead of Peel Thunder.

That leads into the Reserves clash that begins at 11:45am also at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with South Fremantle in seventh position at 4-6 and trying to get back in the finals hunt while Subiaco are further back at 2-8.

The Bulldogs are looking to bounce back from last Saturday’s 17-point loss to Perth with the Lions also coming off a five-goal defeat to Swan Districts last week.
