BULLDOGS STAY PERFECT TO OPEN SEASON

South Fremantle were part of another piece of WAFLW history on Saturday evening and the Bulldogs remained perfect to start the 2025 season with the 43-point win over Perth.
Perth was playing its first ever home game at Mineral Resources Park having just come into the WAFLW competition for the first time in 2025 with South Fremantle the opponents for the occasion.
The Bulldogs were fresh off a stunning fightback to win the derby over East Fremantle in Round 1 and then dominated the clash with the Demons on the way to the eventual 6.14 (50) to 1.1 (7) victory.
After her heroics with three goals including the winner just before the siren the week before, Zoe Huggett kicked another three goals in the win for South Fremantle from eight kicks and three marks.
Reigning fairest and best winner Poppy Stockwell also kicked two goals to go with 16 possessions while Tahleah Mulder collected 26 disposals, Hannah Burt 19, Renee Morgan 19, Alyssa Smogavec 18 and Kate Newson nine to go with 21 hit outs and three tackles in the ruck.
Tara Stribley also had a debut to savour by finishing with 20 possessions and six entries inside the forward 50.
South Fremantle was playing Perth for the first ever time in the WAFLW and the Bulldogs started well with the first goal of the contest at the seven-minute mark with Poppy Stockwell kicking truly.
South Fremantle added another with Annalie Polimeno kicking a goal after the quarter-time siren to give the Bulldogs the 15-point advantage.
Neither team managed a goal in the second quarter with South Fremantle adding four behinds and Perth the one point with the Bulldogs going into the half-time break leading by 18 points.
South Fremantle managed four straight behinds to start the second half before Zoe Huggett got on the board and then Stockwell kicked her second of the game before Perth kicked a first ever WAFLW goal just prior to three quarter-time thanks to Jorja Haines.
South Fremantle then added another two goals in the fourth term with both coming from Huggett with the Bulldogs on the way to the 43-point victory.
Meanwhile, the Rogers Cup match took place on Friday night also at Mineral Resources Park and it turned out to be a thriller with Perth ending up winning 7.4 (46) to 6.7 (43).
It was a close game all evening with a goal apiece in the first quarter before Perth did kick two to one from South Fremantle in the second term to be leading by six points at half-time.
The Bulldogs fired back with three goals to two in the third quarter to tie scores up by three quarter-time but the Demons managed two goals to one in the final stanza to end up with the three-point win.
Madison Hadley, Ava Ritchie, Holly Barnes, Ava Hutchinson, Zarlya Yarran and Ebony Ricetti all kicked one goal apiece on the night for the Bulldogs.
