WAFL | BULLDOGS FALL TO DEMONS
South Fremantle couldn’t convert a half-time lead managing just two goals in the second half with Perth ending up beating the Bulldogs by 34 points at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday.
The Bulldogs arrived at Mineral Resources Park having returned to the winner’s list the week before with the win against West Perth ahead of taking on the Demons and looking to make it seven straight wins against them.
South Fremantle were on track for that through the first half with the only goal of the first quarter and then three goals in the second to go into half-time leading by 11 points.
Perth took over from there with 10 goals to two after half-time to end up beating South Fremantle 12.7 (79) to 6.9 (45) to leave the Bulldogs with a 6-5 record as the reigning premiers in fourth position.
Aaron Drage had three of South Fremantle’s four goals in the first half and ended up also finishing with 17 possessions for the afternoon.
Isiah Winder collected 26 possessions for the Bulldogs, Lewis Rayson 23, Tom Blechynden 23, Sam Otto 23, Chad Pearson 21, Ethan Hughes 20, Roan O’Hehir 18, Matthew Parker 18 and Jake Florenca 17 to go with 10 tackles.
South Fremantle made a perfect start to the game with a goal to Aaron Drage inside the first five minutes. That would prove the only goal of the opening term with the Bulldogs leading by seven points at quarter-time.
Even with Perth kicking the first and last goals of the second quarter, in between Jamaine Jones kicked a goal for South Fremantle with Drage adding another two and that saw the Bulldogs head into the half-time interval leading by 11 points.
South Fremantle then managed just one behind in the third quarter with Perth kicking seven goals up the other end to be leading by 31 points at three quarter-time.
Jacob Whan and Isiah Winder did kick goals in the final term but the Demons also added another three goals on the way to the 34-point victory.
The action on Saturday at Mineral Resources Park got underway with the Colts match up and it was Perth taking advantage of an inaccurate South Fremantle to win 10.8 (68) to 1.19 (25).
Perth started strongly with the only four goals of the first quarter to be leading by 25 points at quarter-time before it was a goal apiece in the second term with the Demons on top by 18 points going into half-time.
South Fremantle then had seven behinds in the third quarter while Perth kicked two goals and the Demons added another three goals in the last term to the three behind from the Bulldogs.
The result leaves South Fremantle sitting on an 8-2 record now in the Colts but remaining in top spot by the end of Round 12.
The lone goal for the Bulldogs was kicked by Tom Stewart with Chace Vanderhoek racking up 34 possessions, Riley Stannard 20, Dylan Noble 16 and Kobe Clucas 14 to go with eight tackles and six inside-50 entries.
That led into the Reserves match at Mineral Resources Park with Perth ending up beating South Fremantle 10.13 (73) to 8.8 (56).
The Demons kicked two goals to one in the first quarter before the Bulldogs responded with three goals to two in the second to cut the Perth lead to just two points by half-time.
