RD 16 WAFLW PREVIEW | v EAST PERTH
South Fremantle need to keep on winning to maintain their WAFLW finals place as they prepare to host East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Sunday.
The Round 16 WAFLW match up will get underway at the port at 12:10pm on Sunday afternoon with the Bulldogs looking to make it three straight wins.
With the 62-point win in Mandurah against Peel Thunder last Saturday, South Fremantle improved to seven wins, five losses and a draw on the season to be sitting in fourth position.
The Bulldogs just need to keep winning and they will end up returning to finals action in 2016 as they host a Royals team who are still dangerous despite their 2-11 record and losing to East Fremantle by 11 points last Saturday.
The last time the two teams met was Round 10 of this season at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium which saw South Fremantle come away with the 7.3 (45) to 4.5 (29) victory against East Perth.
In that 16-point win, Jess Watts kicked two goals for the Bulldogs while Tash Entwistle racked up 33 possessions, Makaela Tuhakaraina 29, Tara Stribley 21, TJ Mulder 18 and Madi Evans 17.
South Fremantle midfield star Ash Gomes isn’t taking anything for granted and knows that the Bulldogs can’t take East Perth lightly if they want to keep their season alive.
“I think you just have to treat every opposition as though they are top of the ladder and me personally that’s how I definitely go about it,” Gomes told The Kennel on 91.3 SportFM.
“I think Pia’s got us pretty well structured and just focusing on one game at a time so at the moment that’s what we’re focusing on and Peel’s been ticked off and now it’s all eyes on East Perth, and it’s even probably better that we’re playing back at The Kennel.
“I know a lot of the girls are hungry for that finals rebirth so I think that’s probably a major driver for a lot of the girls, but it’s just good being back home and nothing’s better so that’s also a massive drive for us.”
The Rogers Cup game between South Fremantle and East Perth will get things underway on Sunday morning at Fremantle Community Bank Oval starting at 10:05am.
South Fremantle come into the Round 16 match up sitting in sixth position in the Rogers Cup with a 5-8 record while East Perth are in last place at 1-12.
The Bulldogs are fresh off a thumping 86-point victory in Mandurah against Peel Thunder last Saturday while East Perth went down to East Perth by 77 points on Sunday.
The two teams have already played another this season back in Round 10 at Leederville’s Sullivan Logistics Stadium which saw South Fremantle scoring the 9.4 (58) to 2.3 (15) victory.
In that win, Ayvah Rioli kicked five goals for the Bulldogs, Khesan Starr two, Maningning Morales one and Olivia Ricupero one.
