WAFLW SEMI FINAL MATCH REPORT

WAFLW | BULLDOGS FALL IN THRILLING DERBY

South Fremantle kicked two goals in the third quarter to level scores up but it wasn’t quite to be in Sunday’s WAFLW first semi-final with East Fremantle managing to end up scoring the four-point derby victory.

For the second time in the WAFLW, it was a derby match up in the finals and this time it was a first semi-final with East Fremantle playing host to South Fremantle at The Good Grocer Park.

The Bulldogs had finished the home and away season in fourth position and the Sharks in third as they put their seasons on the line in the Sunday afternoon contest.

East Fremantle would end up kicking the only two goals of the first half before South Fremantle hit back with two goals in the third term to have scores all tied up by three quarter-time.

The Sharks would end up kicking the only goal of the last quarter to end up winning 3.4 (22) to 2.6 (18) and to keep their season alive and set up a preliminary final match up against Claremont with Swan Districts having booked in their Grand Final spot already.

South Fremantle’s goals in the first semi-final were kicked by Kiana Lee and Shannyn Pomersbach.

TJ Mulder also finished with 20 possessions and 15 tackles for the Bulldogs with Ash Gomes also having 17 disposals, 10 tackles and four marks.

Jess Watts ended up with 15 touches as well for South Fremantle, Annalie Polimeno 15, Jasmine Bazeley 13, Liusaidh Gilchrist 12 and Ebony Grant 12.

The first goal of the game went the way of East Fremantle after eight minutes thanks to Jasmine Johansen and that would prove the only major of the opening quarter with the Sharks going into quarter-time leading by five points.

East Fremantle were then the only team to score in the second quarter with another goal to Eve Wilson-Sieber and that saw the Sharks going into the half-time interval leading by 13 points.

South Fremantle hit back to start the second half with a goal to Shannyn Pomersbach after nine minutes before Kiana Lee added another three minutes later.

All of a sudden it was a tied ball game by three quarter-time before South Fremantle had three chances on goal to start the last quarter but Lee managed just to kick the three behinds.

East Fremantle responded with the last goal of the game through Jae Flynn and that was enough to keep the Sharks’ season alive with the four-point derby victory at the expense of the Bulldogs.
