RAC WA DAY DERBY

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

RAC has partnered with the South Fremantle Football Club with the support of East Fremantle Football Club to deliver the first-ever WAFL RAC Derby in June.

The partnership will deliver the road safety message to the crowd as both Fremantle teams battle it out in a local rivalry. Happiness Co will also deliver educational workshops for budding young football stars to build self-awareness about how mental health can impact road safety decisions. The collaboration is one of several football partnerships with RAC supporting the AFL and AFLW derbies since 2019 and 2020.

RAC General Manager External Relations Will Golsby said the WAFL RAC Derby was a fantastic opportunity for the RAC to deliver road safety messages to a key audience. “We’re happy to highlight road safety to footy fans, at a time when road trauma has been increasing – with speed a major factor contributing to road deaths.

“It’s a good opportunity to remind all drivers about the importance of slowing down at the wheel because one life lost is one too many.”

South Fremantle Bulldogs’ CEO Cameron Britt said the partnership with RAC was a welcome one.

“Our club has experienced the devastating impact of road trauma and we have seen first-hand the ripple effect this has on a community.
“We want to educate our players on making good decisions behind the wheel and this is a fantastic partnership to do that.”

CEO Adrian Bromage also welcomed the partnership and the opportunity to emphasise the importance of making safe driving decisions at a much-anticipated game.

“We are pleased RAC has come onboard to support this important game of football for our clubs as we meet for the 392nd occasion, marking 125 years of rivalry with the Sharks.

“We might be ahead on the ledger but there are no winners when it comes to road trauma. “We are right behind raising awareness of this important road safety message and doing all we can to keep our players safe as they travel.”

The RAC WAFL Derby will be held at the Fremantle Oval on 2 June with the Reserves game kicking off at 10:25am, League at 1:10pm and Colts at 4pm. The RAC Rescue Experience virtual reality and road safety activation will run between 12pm – 4pm.
