BULLDOGS PREPARE FOR MEMORABLE ROUND 1

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

WHAT a season it turned out to be in 2020 for South Fremantle after everything that took place during the year and now we are just over a week from celebrating that achievement while turning our focus on what lies ahead in 2021.

The 2020 season got a while to get started, but once it did what a memorable year it turned out to be for the South Fremantle Football Club.

Not only was a slice of history made with the WAFL Grand Final being held at the historic Fremantle Community Bank Oval with a remarkable spectacle delivered and huge crowd on hand, but it was the Bulldogs who proved victorious to win the premiership in a remarkable on-field contest.

The scenes were remarkable before, during and after the game as the occasion proved one to savour for all Bulldogs faithful, and now the start to the new season in 2021 presents the chance to celebrate that one last time and then look ahead to what lies ahead.

South Fremantle will open the 2021 WAFL season next Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval against West Perth with plenty planned to make it an occasion any Bulldogs supporters and members won’t want to miss.

A huge day is planned on Saturday April 3 to open the season and it includes much more than just that main event WAFL fixture with West Perth with bouncedown set for 2.10pm.

The highlight for all South Fremantle fans will without doubt be the unfurling of the 2020 premiership flag, the first WAFL league triumph for the Bulldogs since 2009.

It will be a tremendous day that South Fremantle will provide for all in attendance as well including plenty of fun and food for the whole family along with a great range of merchandise being available – including 2020 premiership gear!

There will also be a celebration of this year’s Ball Legend, Craig Edwards. Edwards is one of the greats of the Bulldogs having won the 1989 Sandover Medal, the WJ Hughes Medal in both 1988 and 1989, and the Bernie Naylor Medal as the league’s leading goalkicker in 1992.

He played 163 of his 236-game WAFL career with South Fremantle and he is a deserved great of the club who will be recognised on the footballs used at all home games for the Bulldogs this season.

His family’s sporting legacy continues as well with his daughter Jessie a star basketball player in the WNBL with the Perth Lynx and locally in the NBL1 West competition preparing to play with the Cockburn Cougars in 2021.

South Fremantle chief executive Cameron Britt is excited about everything planned to celebrate the start to the new season with an eye to both marking last year’s success and looking ahead to what 2021 has ahead.

“We’ve worked hard all summer both on and off field, and we want to give our Fans a really special and memorable experience during our season opener,” Britt said.

“The last WAFL experience at Fremantle Community Bank Oval was our 14th Premiership, thus we want to try and maintain some exciting momentum and really fly into 2021”.

“Fans are encouraged to look to the skies above as we unfurl our premiership flag, and we will also welcome our Ball Legend, Craig Edwards, in a very unique way”.

“There will be pop-up bars, food trucks, Kids’ Zone with dual inflatables, and we really want to be a family and footy fan destination this Easter Saturday”.

“If you’re not down south, you’re in the Port City, at the Premier Family Club”.

See you at the Footy.
