CELEBRATING NAIDOC WEEK

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

Kaya,

South Fremantle Football Club is proud to be celebrating NAIDOC Week. We recognise the indelible legacy of so many talented and inspiring Indigenous footballers here at South Fremantle and across Western Australia, and we pay tribute.

This week we will contest Claremont Football Club in our annual NAIDOC fixture this Saturday July 9, at Revo Fitness Stadium, Claremont. We will be wearing our NAIDOC Guernsey, as designed by Shardah Jetta-Farmer.

NAIDOC GUERNSEY

“The Red V represents the path to the meeting place, Fremantle which is portrayed in the centre of the guernsey.

Boomerangs are tools used for hunting and protection in battle and therefore symbolises our players going into battle on field each week.

The Swan River is depicted at the bottom and shows where the river meets the ocean in Fremantle.

Some personal touches include the family symbol of our designer and footprints along the side of the jersey representing our Indigenous players past and present.”

– Designed By – Shardah Jetta-Farmer alongside Matty Parker.

As the Club that introduced football audiences to Stephen & Clem Michael, the Collards, the McGraths, Nicky Winmar, Basil & Warren Campbell, Benny Vigona, the Matera brothers, Marlion Pickett, Tim Kelly, Matty Parker, Brendon Ah Chee, Jesse Motlop and of course, twelve (12!) Rioli Family footballers, we are proud at the Bulldogs to continue this legacy of celebration and respect.

We reflect upon, and celebrate, the incredible contribution of so many Indigenous players and staff who have enriched Souths, making our Club better.
