COLTS PRE-SEASON CAMP

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

Over the weekend of the January 26 & 27, the colts squad had their annual preseason camp at the Veterans Transition Centre [VTC] in Jarrahdale. The group of 70 trained at Fremantle Oval before having breakfast and heading out to the camp location.

Once out there, the group was presented to by Club President Peter Christie, Football Manager Charlie Burke, and past AFL and WAFL players Matt Carr and Roger Hayden.

The boys learnt a lot about resilience and what it takes to make it at the top level, and took part in a leadership workshop lead by coach Brendon Logan and Matt Carr.

After the leadership workshop, coach Steve Goodall and Club Chaplain Rod Linton took the boys through a “HHH session” (hero, hardship, highlight). The boys were encouraged to open up to their pillar group about a hero, hardship and highlight in their life. This session was kicked off by presentations by Rod, Steve and head coach Larry Cavallo. The boys really opened up in the session and it was a great bonding experience for the group.

The group then took part in a “pillar Olympics” which was a competition between their preseason training groups consisting of challenged such as tower building, talent shows and mascot competitions. All of the boys put in strong efforts across all 3 challenges, with the winning group being awarded with the pillar Olympics trophy that night.

The following morning the boys got to work assisting Greg Green and the VTC staff with some projects around the camp ground. This included moving fencing, clearing paths and roads of debris and branches and assisting moving building equipment around the camp grounds.

We would like to thank Greg and the team at VTC for hosting us. It was an awesome experience for all players and staff and has set us up for a great year ahead!
