Colts Report – Round 10

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

IT WAS the biggest game of the year on Saturday for the young SFFC colts side as they took on the undefeated Claremont colts.

They were under enormous pressure early and withstood an inaccurate Claremont barrage. Settling late in the first quarter, the boys were able to fight back to a reasonable position, with some clever goals off the boot of Jermaine Lewis (K Craft Bullbars award winner), and finished the first term with a handy lead.

Jermaine along with livewire Jarrod Garlett and James Culleton caused many headaches for the bigger Claremont backline.

Unfortunately the team was unable to sustain the intensity required to win against the stronger bodies of the top side and found the going tough in the second stanza, consequently letting the opposition dictate the contested ball, which they converted into a 10-point lead at half-time.

With an even contest for the rest of the day, the result was not ensured until late into the final term. Our young side is developing very well and we as a coaching group are looking forward to watching their progression over the coming weeks and hopefully making an impact in the business end of the season. There are many positives with this group and their best is getting closer as each week passes.

Other good performers for the South team were Matty Nicholson, Tim Stewart and Jayden D’Vauz who played his first game of the year. Jayden’s recovery from hip surgery over the season break has been long and arduous. It is a credit to him on the way he has dedicated himself to his rehabilitation and is set to make an impact not only at colt level but also within the senior ranks.

We look forward to another big challenge this week as we prepare for the Derby clash this Sunday.

SFFC Colts Coach
