Colts Report – Round 22

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

WITH one round Qleft in the season, the South Fremantle’s colts team heads into preparation for its fourth finals campaign in succession. This week they take on cellar dwellers Peel with some great form after laying to rest Subiaco’s last chance at playing in September last Saturday.

It was possibly the best performance by the colts side for 2014 on Saturday as they displayed some terrific team football. The game was just the tonic as we head toward the finals with renewed confidence.

The first quarter saw both sides exchange goals and some willingness to put the body on the line for the contested ball. Jacob Dragovich led the way with seven tackles and 29 disposals for the game.

He was assisted in the ball winning area by Kade Stewart with seven tackles and 21 touches. These two along with Bill Collier (22 possessions) and Matty Ah Siu (22) controlled the flow of play through the midfield for much of the game.

Braden Fimmano (22 disposals) defended well and turned defence into attack with many fine runs out of the back-line. He was able to feed off to running players like Joel McComb (16 touches, seven tackles) who found form after being absent through injury over the past few weeks. Callum Ah Chee continues his recovery from a severe ankle injury with five goals to be a focal point up forward.

The second half found the Subiaco team continually misfiring in front of goals as the pressure from the Bulldogs back-line increased. Colts captain Bradd McPhail (17 disposals) controlled the flow of play and consistently thwarted the opposition forward thrusts.

Other backmen, Jesse Mirco and Noah Strom, were unstoppable down back as the pair took the opportunity to take many telling marks.

With most aspects of the game controlled by the home side it was inevitable that they made the impact on the scoreboard by kicking 10 goals for the final half and keep the Subiaco side to three.

With the side back in form the players have a renewed vitality with the prospects of being more than competitive in the post-season proceedings.

I would like to thank all the support group for their efforts over the season and hope they too feel the excitement of September that has taken over the whole colts program. We look forward to playing finals football once again but it is most important that we gather our resources and make sure we show due respect to the Peel side that I am sure will give a good account of themselves this weekend as they finish off their season.
