LIFE MEMBERSHIP FOR SOUTHS GREATS

Last night, Monday 5th of December, South Fremantle Football Club held their Annual General Meeting in the WJ Hughes Bar at the club.

Amongst a range of business, the highlight of the night was the induction of 4 new Life Members.

South Fremantle Football Club is pleased to announce the following people have been made Life Members:

– Peter Matier
– Les Olivieri
– Anthony Van Der Wielen
– Zachary Strom


The Club would also like to congratulate the following members on becoming Lifetime Members for 50 years of consecutive membership:

– Barry Lucanus
– Raymond Yukich
– Geoffrey Higham
– Vince Stanley

Life Member Inductees

Peter Matier

  • *20-year involvement as volunteer
  • 2004 – *2022 Reserves Team Manager
  • 2002 Runner
  • 2003 Coaches Assistant
  • A quiet achiever who gives significant loyalty and service to SFFC


Les Olivieri

  • *17-year volunteer as at 2022 (runner, training assistant)
  • 12-year sponsor (varying levels including Player/Corporate Classic/Club Sponsor)
  • Left the Business (HR products) several years ago but ensured he sponsored for a two-year term for continuation, plus still supports as an individual
  • Volunteered to paint Player Races & Media Box & continually offers support to the club


Anthony Van der Wielen

  • *13-year Board tenure
  • Joined the Board as an elected Director in 2008 until 2015 (8 seasons)
  • Returned to the Club as a Director in 2018 – 2022* (5 seasons)
  • Multi-year sponsor (varying levels including Player/Corporate Classic/Club Sponsor)
  • An AFLPA accredited agent for over 17 years, assisting SFFC/AFL relationships.
  • Chair of both the Football Committee – and until recently, also led the Redevelopment Committee – a considerable portfolio as we pursue a new facility at Fremantle Oval


Zac Strom

  • *156 League games – qualifying for automatic Life Membership
  • Hailing from Exmouth in SFFC’s Gascoyne country region, Strom has been an exceptional performer for our WAFL side since debuting in 2013
  • *77 goals as a versatile player, with notable utility across multi-positions
  • 2020 Premiership
  • 2020 WJ Hughes Medal
