PRESIDENT’S UPDATE – THE SEASON IS UPON US

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

To all our valued members, partners and stakeholders,

It has been a long and enjoyable Summer savouring our 2020 Premiership win but we are now just weeks out, from defending our title, in WAFL season 2021.

There has already been plenty of Souths football action, including our Women’s teams, and our Futures (U16’s Males), all commencing their seasons in recent weeks.

When you consider that Fremantle Community Bank Oval is also the AFLW home venue for the Fremantle Dockers Women’s team, the football calendar has never been busier, and the diversity of content on display right in the heart of the Port City has never been stronger.

From a WAFL League standpoint, we have transitioned from being the challenger, to the challenged. Last year’s magnificent Premiership, our 14 th , places expectations upon us that we are comfortable to carry.

This is not a burden, rather a motivation, rest assured we are ready to compete again.

We have a strong list for the 2021 season and are pleased with the progress of recruits such as Cam McCarthy, Matty Parker and Blake Schlensog. All three will be highly valuable contributors, leading by example and experience.

When you consider that fellow team-mates Cody Ninyette and Steve Edwards played 2 and 0 games last year respectively, we feel as though we have at least five new recruits for our 2021 program, to support and complement our core experienced group.

From an off-field perspective, we are continuing to pursue and deliver growth in all Club aspects. Our Commercial Partnership activities have boomed, and for this we are incredibly grateful. We have welcomed several new, high-value partners into the Club for 2021, and we look forward to rewarding their loyalty and commitment with some strong results both on-field, and commercially.

Membership, a division of Club business that I am personally very invested in seeing succeed, is experiencing further genuine and consistent growth. We have in excess of 2,200 financial members right now, with a full-year target of 3,000 our goal – representing more than 25% growth on last year’s recent record result.

We know our on-field product is quality, and our member offering continues to improve, thus we are bullish and determined to see strong, incremental membership growth year-on-year.

If you have not yet ‘Joined our Family’ , I strongly urge you to do so. It is simple, quick and you can even select to roll-over your membership annually – pledging your continuing support to this mighty Football Club – Sign Up Today!

Following last year’s Premiership, we have been focused on commencing the 2021 season where we left off – with strong on-field performances and innovative off-field activities.

2021 Ball Legend – Congratulations Craig Edwards

It gives me great enjoyment to be able to announce to our membership that our 2021 ‘Ball Legend’ has been selected as Craig Edwards. Craig is a former South Fremantle champion, Life Member, and the 1989 Sandover Medallist. Craig’s extensive football CV will be proudly displayed on our match-day footballs this season.

Round 1 – Help us to unfurl the Flag

We open our WAFL season on Saturday April 3 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval against the West Perth Football Club. We will unfurl our Flag on this day, and this activity can I say, should not be missed. This will be a memorable moment and I encourage you to witness it live – looking to the skies above.

Details about this big opening game are available here
President’s function tickets are on sale now – available here

Round 3 – Playing for points in Pingelly

In Round 3 we will travel to Pingelly, in our own Upper Great Southern country region, to contest the Peel Thunder Football Club, in both WAFLW and WAFL League games. We are bringing Souths footy to our significant and valued regional audiences via this concept, and we are thoroughly looking forward to that opportunity.

Further details about the day will be released shortly and President’s function and Bus (transport) tickets are on sale now – available here

I thank you for your continued support for the Club.
We appreciate it, and we want to make you proud.

See you at the Footy!

Peter Christie
