RD 15 PREVIEW | v PEEL THUNDER

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

IF South Fremantle wants to break into the WAFLW finals over the last two weeks of the 2024 season then two wins are needed and that task begins on Saturday at home to Peel Thunder.

South Fremantle beat Subiaco in a thriller by two points last Saturday as part of a massive WA Day long weekend of football action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

That was a crucial win as well for the Bulldogs to snap a losing slide and improve them to a 5-7 record on the season and to remain in the finals hunt.

South Fremantle does still remain a game out of the top four behind the 6-6 Swan Districts, but two wins over the last two rounds and the Bulldogs could still play finals for a second straight season in the WAFLW.

The two met earlier this season all the way in Round 3 with South Fremantle scoring the 10.11 (71) to 0.4 (4) victory at Mandurah’s Lane Group Stadium.

In that win for the Bulldogs, Noa McNaughton, Poppy Stockwell and Pippa Sideris kicked two goals each with Liusaidh Gilchrist racking up 25 possessions, Renee Morgan 22, Molly O’Hehir 22, Alyssa Smogavec 21, Ariana Hetherington 19 and Stockwell 18.

South Fremantle is fresh off the thrilling two-point win against Subiaco and from that team, Jasmine Bazeley, Marie Polimeno and Hannah Young come into the side.

Going out for the Bulldogs are Tahlia Holtze, Molly O’Hehir and Charlotte Vandenberg.

Peel lost to Claremont by 18 points last week and from that side, Tanisha Anderson, Gracie Fenton and Jorja Haines are into the team to play South Fremantle.

Going out for the Thunder are Anna Watts, Jessica Jones and Kayla Bradshaw.

Meanwhile, Round 15 in the Rogers Cup also sees South Fremantle take on Peel Thunder on Saturday morning at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with the game beginning at 10.35am.

South Fremantle needs to win its last two games of the Rogers Cup season to be a chance to play finals coming into the round sitting in fifth position with a 6-6 record.

The Bulldogs come up against a Peel Thunder team out of finals contention with a 2-10 record on the season as well.

South Fremantle lost to Subiaco last Saturday and from that team, Charlotte Bell, Hayley Cardosa, Dakota Larkin, Ava Ritchie, Khesan Starr, Maddison White and Zarlya Yarran come in to play Peel.

Going out for the Bulldogs are Nicole Taylor-Thorpe, Tanaya Prentice, Jasmine Bazeley, Marie Polimeno, Coco McGrath, Hannah Young and Imogen Stanners.

Peel is coming off a 52-point loss at the hands of Claremont with Saffron Axford, Zoe Banks-Smith, Tiarna Collard, Ava Cristodero, Heidi Ireland, Mckayla Peck, Gemma Rowley and Charlie Stewart into the line-up.

Going out for the Thunder are Ella Burns, Jorja Tournay, Lilly Ball, Emily Davenport, Tahlia Head, Lucy Kane, Chloe Sheahen and Matilda Munro.
