RD 4 PREVIEW | v WEST PERTH

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

SOUTH Fremantle got on the board for the 2024 WAFLW season last week and will look to keep that momentum going this Saturday on the road to the undefeated West Perth.

While South Fremantle did lose the opening two matches of the season, it was up against the two grand final teams of each of the last two WAFLW seasons.

The Bulldogs hit the road for the first time in 2024 last Saturday and produced a dominant performance holding Peel Thunder goalless in Mandurah and now will look to keep the momentum rolling the Round 4 match up with West Perth.

South Fremantle will take on the Falcons at Joondalup’s Pentanet Stadium on Saturday afternoon starting at 3.40pm in what looms as a fascinating contest.

South Fremantle made the finals for the first time last year and played in the preliminary final while West Perth is looking to make the finals for the first time now in 2024 and the Falcons have started the new season in impressive fashion.

The Falcons have been improving each of their WAFLW seasons and have now started 2024 with wins against Peel Thunder, East Perth and Subiaco while the Bulldogs recorded their first win of the season last week over East Perth following first up defeats to East Fremantle and Claremont.

South Fremantle has brought in Tanika Bradley, Holly Ifould, Tahleah Mulder and Shannyn Pomersbach to the squad that beat East Perth last Saturday.

West Perth has made five changes to its team with Teal Bennett, Sarah Kirkbride, Nadia Parora, Samara Sallie and Bianca Webb the inclusions with Kenleigh Duve, Stacey Francis-Bayman, Ruby Freeman, Megan Norbury and Jessica Roper going out.

The two teams have played one another five times so far in the WAFLW competition with South Fremantle winning all five of those encounters dating back to West Perth joining in 2022.

South Fremantle’s five wins against West Perth have come by an average of 36.2 points with the Bulldogs having outscored the Falcons 36.47 (263) to 12.10 (82) across the first five encounters, but there’s every reason to expect a much closer affair in their first meeting of 2024.

The Rogers Cup match up between South Fremantle and West Perth will also take place on Saturday at Pentanet Stadium starting at 1.30pm.

South Fremantle has started the Rogers Cup season winning one of three matches so far but the Bulldogs will be attempting to break even at 2-2 up against a West Perth team yet to lose also in the Youth Girls competition as the reigning premiers.
