VALE EILEEN ‘RED’ BOND

Author: South Fremantle Football Club

South Fremantle Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Club Patron & #1 Ticket Holder, Eileen ‘Red’ Bond (nee Hughes).

Red was a larger-than-life character and significant contributor to South Fremantle for many decades, holding the distinguished dual title of Patron & #1 Ticket Holder, since the early 1980s.

Along with late husband Alan, the Bond & Hughes names have been synonymous with the Bulldogs for a Century of Football in Freo.

The Hughes Family association began when Red’s father, Bill Snr, made his League debut on 2 May 1925. Bill Snr was a 3-time President of the Bulldogs, and Red’s brother Bill Jnr, engineered the survival of the club from financial extinction in 1989.

Accordingly, the Hughes family enjoy a 100-year association with South Fremantle in this very year, 2025.

Red was a generous and loyal South Fremantle person & benefactor, passionate about the Club’s progress, and ever supportive of ways to support the Bulldogs & achieve growth, success & profile.

If Red was in Perth on a Saturday in winter, she was at Fremantle Oval supporting her beloved Bulldogs, our Club is deeply saddened by her passing, and is in mourning.

Fremantle Oval, our match-day luncheons, our member seating area, and our club will all be less colourful, less energetic and just perhaps, a little less fun, without her smiling presence.

South Fremantle Football Club, its Board of Directors, Staff, Players, Sponsors & Members offers sincere condolences to all members of the Bond & Hughes families at this incredibly sad time.
