RD 15 WAFLW PREVIEW | v PEEL THUNDER
South Fremantle had a thrilling win before the bye and resume their WAFLW season this Saturday on the road to Peel Thunder with another victory to keep them right in the finals mix.
The Bulldogs kept their finals hopes alive two weeks ago with the win against Perth by two points and then following last weekend’s bye, now take on Peel this Saturday starting at 3:40pm at Mandurah’s Lane Group Stadium.
Coming into the round and South Fremantle are sitting in fifth position in the WAFLW with six wins, five losses and a draw as they take on a Peel team who are in last place and having lost all 13 matches so far in 2026.
The teams met earlier this season in Round 7 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval and on that occasion it was South Fremantle beating Peel Thunder 9.3 (57) to 7.2 (44).
In that win, Shannyn Pomersbach, Jess Watts and TJ Mulder all kicked two goals each for the Bulldogs with Tash Entwistle finishing with 18 possessions, Madi Evans 16, Ash Gomes 15 and Mulder 14.
South Fremantle coach Pia Faletti hopes that her team enjoyed the weekend off coming off that win last up and that they can now build some momentum from that over the last month to stay in the finals hunt.
“I think they’re itching for it and we probably felt that last year we might have let that opportunity slip towards the end of the season,” Faletti said on The Kennel on 91.3 SportFM.
“So I think they are very keen not to have a repeat of that and while they enjoyed their rest over the weekend with the bye, they will be ready to go straight back into it against Peel.
“They will be ready to give this last month a red hot crack.”
South Fremantle had the bye last weekend following the win over Perth and from that team, Hannah Burt, Liusaidh Gilchrist, Kiana Lee and Jessia Skinner all come in.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Alexis Edgley, Lauren Vecchio, Tara Stribley and Charlie Vandenberg.
Peel lost to Subiaco last Saturday and from that team Riley Fisher, Natalie Oakes, Taylor Pymm, Lara Cibraa and Madison Ware all come in to take on South Fremantle.
Going out for the Thunder are Sarah Kendall, Layla Scott, Tiama Collard, Zaide Wilson and Nadya Browne.
It’s the Rogers Cup game that will wrap up proceedings on Saturday evening in Mandurah between South Fremantle and Peel Thunder with the game getting underway at 5:45pm.
Two weeks ago before the bye, the Bulldogs beat Perth by 15 points to improve to a 4-8 record in the Rogers Cup while Peel are coming off a five-point loss at home to Subiaco last Saturday.
Coming off the win two weeks ago against Perth and then the bye last weekend, there are plenty of changes to the Bulldogs’ Rogers Cup team with Makenzie Chapple, Emely Miller, Ebony Ricetti, Ayvah Rioli and Ashley Speijers all into the team.
Going out for the Bulldogs are Hannah Floyd, Skye Behrendt, Alice Warburton, Madeline Jarrett and Ruby Chipper.
Peel Thunder are coming off that loss to Subiaco last Saturday with Charlie David, Aleya Ribbans, Tamsyn Suitor and Hannah Van Keule into the team.
Going out for Peel are Maya Walsh, Indiana Chalwell, Madison Ware and Eve Wilson.
The teams have already met earlier this season too back in Round 7 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval where South Fremantle scored the 5.14 (44) to 2.2 (14) victory.
