WA Day Foundation Derby Preview

Sunday, May 31, 2015 - 1:22 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle heads back to ATOM Stadium looking for a fifth straight win at East Fremantle's home ground in the traditional WA Day Foundation Derby this Monday.

The traditional Foundation Derby is always the biggest occasion of any home and away WAFL season, and now the Bulldogs head to East Fremantle Oval looking to consolidate a spot in the top-five, and bounce back from a last up loss to Peel and a defeat East Fremantle back on Anzac Day at Fremantle Oval.

South Fremantle will again be without full-forward Ben Saunders with an ankle injury and full-back Dylan Ross who might still play in the reserves on Monday despite being diagnosed with glandular fever.

Important midfielders Haiden Schloithe and Jacob Martinez should also both return from injury for the Bulldogs, but in the reserves.

Player Column – Dylan Ross WA Day

Saturday, May 30, 2015 - 3:32 PM - by Dylan Ross

IT IS fair to say my 2015 season hasn’t gone to script so far but a few things were explained when a blood test showed I had glandular fever a few days ago. Now after a fair bit of rest I'm starting to feel better and am looking forward to having a run around with the boys on Monday.

We played against East Perth a few weeks ago and I was running around in the reserves and feeling a little bit flat, but I got through the game reasonably well and thought I played OK. But I then got a little bit crook and I saw Rach our doctor and mentioned that I have been sick a couple of times this year. She gave me a blood test and funnily enough it came back that I had glandular fever.

It's a bit of a tricky illness and most of the time they can't really prescribe you medication for it, it's just rest so over the last 30 days I haven’t done a great deal especially the first couple of weeks. I've now eased back into training trying to get myself right and luckily enough I'll be able to have a run around this Monday which is good.

Friday, May 29, 2015 - 10:11 PM

WAFL broadcaster Channel Seven televised the first Fremantle derby of 2015 back on Anzac Day at Fremantle Oval, and this week featured a unique look at the rivalry between East Fremantle and South Fremantle on Today Tonight.

Today Tonight reporter Mark Gibson was on hand at Fremantle Oval for the derby on Anzac Day and got an up close and personal look in the change rooms of both the Bulldogs and Sharks in preparation for the game as well on the bench during the game, at the quarter-time huddles and then caught up with some of the 5000 spectators in attendance.

And now ahead of this Monday's Foundation Derby on WA Day at East Fremantle's ATOM Stadium, Today Tonight did a feature on the Fremantle rivalry and you can watch it yourself here:

Dell'Olio finds best form for WA, looks to continue with Bulldogs

Wednesday, May 27, 2015 - 12:12 PM - by Chris Pike

CORY Dell'Olio likely played his best game of the year on return to the WAFL in Saturday's State game win over South Australia and now he is looking to continue that form for South Fremantle in WA Day's Foundation Derby as the Bulldogs look to get back on the winner's list.

Dell'Olio was a late addition to the WA squad to take on the SANFL in Saturday's eventual 45-point State game win at Lathlain Park, but in the end his second time representing his state proved a day to remember.

He previously played for WA in 2011 against Queensland before the South Fremantle premiership forward spent the last three years in the AFL with Essendon.

The 25-year-old has returned to the Bulldogs this year and on Saturday formed part of a terrific forward-line for WA alongside Simpson Medallist Ryan Davis, Shane Yarran, Tony Notte, Clancy Wheeler and Lachlan Delahunty.

Five Bulldogs stars shine in big WAFL win over SANFL

Monday, May 25, 2015 - 4:18 PM - by Chris Pike

FOR the second straight year South Fremantle players have been instrumental in Western Australia prevailing in a State match, this time five Bulldogs were part of the WAFL's 45-point win over South Australia at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

Following the efforts of Ben Saunders, Haiden Schloithe, Ryan Cook and Ashton Hams helping the WAFL beat the NEAFL by 85 points in Sydney last year, again South Fremantle players were instrumental in the 18.13 (121) to 11.10 (76) win on Saturday.

Saunders and Schloithe were both unavailable due to injury, but Cook and Hams were back again to play for WA and were joined by Cory Dell'Olio playing for the Black Swans for the second time, and for Marlion Pickett and Blayne Wilson to both make their debuts.

Dell'Olio perhaps his best game of the season as well finishing the afternoon with 20 possessions, seven marks and three goals in an impressive performance.

WAFL State Game Preview v SANFL

Friday, May 22, 2015 - 8:01 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle will again be strongly represented as the WAFL takes on the SANFL in the 2015 State game at Lathlain Park on Saturday.

After Ashton Hams, Ryan Cook, Haiden Schloithe and Ben Saunders all put in outstanding performances last year for WA in the win over the NEAFL in Sydney, and with Hams winning the Simpson Medal, five South Fremantle players have been named to face South Australia.

Hams and Cook have earned their place again and there is every chance that Schloithe and Saunders would have as well if they were fit. Blayne Wilson and Marlion Pickett have both been selected to make their debut representing the WAFL while Cory Dell'Olio will do so for a second time.

WA and South Australia are two proud football states, the WAFL and SANFL are strong state league competitions and now they do battle in Saturday's State game at Lathlain Park with plenty on the line.
