Good Friday Preview v Claremont

Friday, April 3, 2015 - 11:47 AM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle and Claremont meet on Good Friday evening at Fremantle Oval in what should be a tremendous occasion with the prospect of a strong turn out to take advantage of the action under lights at the port.

Up until South Fremantle's thumping 64-point win over Claremont in Round 7 last year at Fremantle Oval, the Tigers had dominated the recent history with the Bulldogs.

Since South Fremantle won the 2009 premiership, Claremont won the next nine meetings between the two teams during which time the Tigers claimed four minor premierships and won two flags in both 2011 and 2012 while also making the grand final in 2010.

Player Column – Dylan Ross Rd 3

Thursday, April 2, 2015 - 3:56 PM - by Dylan Ross

OBVIOUSLY being 2-0 is a lot better than the way we started last year when we lost our first four games.

Personally I have been coming back from surgery on my wrist so I've just been trying to play my role for the team these first two games, and hopefully I have done that and now over the next few weeks I'll look to improve my form a little bit more too.

There's nothing better than a winning feeling at a footy club and you can just tell that the feelings in the rooms and everyone is upbeat, and excited for the rest of the season. It really sets us up starting off 2-0 and it's crucial to start building some momentum. Hopefully we can now continue that on Friday against Claremont.

Bulldogs win seventh straight by downing Demons

Monday, March 30, 2015 - 12:57 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle controlled most of the contest and then withstood a late Perth charge to win by 10 points at Lathlain Park on Saturday with the Bulldogs now having won seven straight matches and consecutive games to start a season for the first time since 2006.

The Bulldogs led by 42 points against the Demons during the third quarter and then again by 39 early in the last following goals to Haiden Schloithe and James Sellar, but the home team then piled on five goals in a 10-minute burst to get back into the contest.

However, a steadying goal from Ben Saunders from outside 50 was enough for South Fremantle to hold on and record the 12.13 (85) to 11.9 (75) victory.

Round 2 Preview v Perth

Friday, March 27, 2015 - 3:27 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle got its 2015 season off to a perfect start last Friday night and now the Bulldogs have the chance to make it two from two this Saturday against Perth at Lathlain Park with the game live on 7mate.

South Fremantle started its season tremendously last Friday night beating West Perth at Fremantle Oval and now hits the road to take on a Perth team coming off a 96-point Round 1 loss to Swan Districts with the Demons now on a 15-match losing streak.

The Bulldogs have not started a season with consecutive victories since 2006 when the then reigning premiers opened the new campaign with six straight wins before eventually going on to lose the grand final of that year to Subiaco.

Player Column – Captain Ryan Cook Rd 2

Thursday, March 26, 2015 - 6:13 PM - by Ryan Cook

IT WAS a great way to start the year last Friday night beating West Perth. They won the flag only two years ago and the WAFL can change pretty quickly from season to season, but they still had 16 or 17 of their premiership players out there so it was a good team we beat.

Like our new coach TC said, you just try and scrap the first couple of rounds out and try to get the four points on the board, and that's what we were able to do. It's been a few years since we won a Round 1 game, but it was exciting to get that win on the board.

Exciting start to new WAFL season for Bulldogs

Saturday, March 21, 2015 - 4:16 PM - by Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle has opened the 2015 WAFL season in style with a 35-point victory over West Perth at Fremantle Oval on Friday night.

The 14.6 (90) to 8.7 (55) victory is the first time that South Fremantle has recorded a Round 1 victory since 2010 and it was the perfect way to begin Todd Curley's time in charge as senior coach.

West Perth kicked the first goal of the game, and season, but from there South Fremantle took control of the contest with the last four goals of the first quarter, and then never seeing their lead fall below five points before securing the eventual 35-point triumph over the 2013 premiers.

Curley excited for Bulldogs debut to come against Falcons

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 5:50 PM - by Chris Pike

TODD Curley has never previously been involved in any WAFL club bar West Perth so it's only fitting that his debut as South Fremantle coach this Friday night at Fremantle Oval comes against the Falcons.

Curley did play in the AFL with both Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs, but when it comes to the WAFL he played his entire career with West Perth and his first stint as a senior coach was also with the Falcons.

Now after some time away from football for the first time in more than two decades following a stint as assistant coach with the Fremantle Dockers, Curley is returning to senior coaching ranks in the WAFL and this time he has taken over at South Fremantle.
