SOUTH Fremantle suffered its first loss since Round 18 last year going down to Swan Districts by 21 points at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday in a tight and tough affair.

The wet and windy conditions along with the ferocious pressure and attack on the ball from both teams ensured that it was a torrid affair at Bassendean on Saturday.

The breeze also had a significant impact on the match with Swans leading by 16 points at quarter-time but the Bulldogs getting back to within two by half-time.

KYLE Hams has no trouble admitting to enjoying his three years with Swan Districts but a year out of the WAFL had him craving one more crack and the chance to try to win a third premiership with South Fremantle and his twin brother Ashton was too much to turn down.

Hams played 106 matches and was a key player in the back-line in South Fremantle's premierships in 2005 and 2009, but he was feeling a little stale with the Bulldogs at the end of 2010 and was considering doing in 2011 what he ended up doing in 2014 - taking time away from the WAFL.

He has always wanted to move back to Busselton to live, and he has done that, but Swan Districts made him an offer too good to refuse in 2011 and he ended up having three outstanding seasons with the black-and-whites.

ALTHOUGH I’ve enjoyed reading the players columns from the boys in the past, it didn’t occur to me that I’d be asked to do my own. My career in media has officially begun.

Maybe I’ll get to the dizzying heights of Craig White and run my own weekly segment one day. Pully’s Plug I reckon I’ll call it.

It’s been great to see the club get off to a promising start. Getting early wins on the board is the best kind of feedback after a tough, smart and team-oriented pre-season. I was able to play in the first two games, but an unexpected (k)ankle injury kept me sidelined watching the boys play well again last week.

SWAN Districts and South Fremantle have both made encouraging starts to the 2015 WAFL season and that should lead to what looms as a fascinating battle at Steel Blue Oval on Saturday.

Swans started their season with a thumping 96-point win over Perth at home and then stormed home against East Perth in Round 2 before coming up 13 points short prior to the bye last week.

South Fremantle, meanwhile, has beaten West Perth, Perth and Claremont to start the season to remain the only unbeaten team left in the competition and to sit on top of the ladder.

The Bulldogs have now won eight straight matches dating back to winning the last five in 2014 as well, but there seems little doubt that the clash with Swans on Saturday at Bassendean is their biggest test of the new season to date.

CORY Dell'Olio was an excited and relieved man to be back playing last Good Friday night in South Fremantle's win over Claremont and now he only expects his form to pick up in coming weeks.

Dell'Olio had to sit out the first two games of the 2015 season but was right to resume playing when the AFL tribunal gave the Essendon players the all clear after the supplement saga that has carried on through the last two and-a-half years following the 2012 AFL season.

Dell'Olio has returned to South Fremantle in 2015 after three years with the Bombers where he played 16 AFL matches and now he has resumed his career with the Bulldogs where he previously played 58 games, kicked 109 goals and played in the 2009 premiership.

REIGNING South Fremantle fairest and best winner Haiden Schloithe is expected to miss approximately a month after injuring his ankle during the Good Friday victory over Claremont at Fremantle Oval.

Schloithe injured his ankle late in the 38-point win on Good Friday that leaves the Bulldogs on top of the WAFL ladder as the only unbeaten team left in the competition after three rounds.

Scans this week have shown that there is some ligament damage to the ankle, but no structural damage and no fracture.

That will mean that Schloithe is expected to miss around four matches of the season with his return expected either just before, or just after the WAFL's State match against South Australia at Lathlain Park on May 23.

SOUTH Fremantle surged to the top of the WAFL ladder with its third straight win to open the 2015 WAFL season by beating Claremont in style by 38 points on Good Friday at Fremantle Oval.

The Bulldogs hosted the Tigers on the evening of Good Friday and a terrific crowd of 3250 turned out to witness the eventual 12.19 (91) to 8.5 (53) victory.

That means that South Fremantle has won its opening three games of the 2015 season to be the last unbeaten WAFL team to be sitting on top of the ladder. The Bulldogs have now also won eight straight matches having won the last five of the 2014 season as well.

SOUTH Fremantle and Claremont meet on Good Friday evening at Fremantle Oval in what should be a tremendous occasion with the prospect of a strong turn out to take advantage of the action under lights at the port.

Up until South Fremantle's thumping 64-point win over Claremont in Round 7 last year at Fremantle Oval, the Tigers had dominated the recent history with the Bulldogs.

Since South Fremantle won the 2009 premiership, Claremont won the next nine meetings between the two teams during which time the Tigers claimed four minor premierships and won two flags in both 2011 and 2012 while also making the grand final in 2010.
